DIT Data Analytics & AI Mission to the Philippines: 4-5 Feb 2020

The Department for International Trade is organising the UK Data Analytics & AI Mission to the Philippines on 3-5 Feb 2020, to position UK tech companies for the various projects and procurement requirements of the fast growing Philippine economy. This mission is open to UK companies with expertise in Big Data and/or Artificial Intelligence applicable to banking, cyber security, eCommerce, utilities, energy generation & distribution, transport systems, intelligent buildings,  infrastructure development (airports, railways, transport hubs), as well as government projects like the New Clark City (1st smart city in the Philippines), the National ID System and the Philippine Data Interconnectivity System.

DIT Support

UK participants will avail of these opportunities:

  1. Briefing on the Philippine Business Environment and Economy by respected government and private organisations.
  2. AI & Big Data Buyers Conference, where you will have the chance to do your pitch to a targeted group of potential clients.
  3. Networking Reception with high-level contacts from relevant industries, including prospective distributors/local business partners, government regulators, and project implementers in the Philippines.
  4. One-on-one meetings with local companies interested in your offerings, right after the Buyers Conference.
  5. Visit to a major Philippine conglomerate/group of companies dealing with telecoms, property development, banking, infrastructure, utilities, healthcare, and education.

Why do business in the Philippines?

The Philippines is now one of the fastest growing countries in Asia, with a GDP growth of 6.2% in 2018. It is the second largest market in ASEAN with 106 million people. Development is mainly brought about by the government’s focus on infrastructure development (Build! Build! Build!) programme, continuous growth in IT-enabled industries and service sectors, & the substantial forex earnings from Filipino expats amounting to over US$26b annually.

PH companies are investing heavily in tech to provide the services and products required by a nation that is rapidly growing, with a young population and moving towards higher middle-income status.

Banks, insurance, manufacturers, retailers and eCommerce companies are looking for ways to capture and analyse costumer data to improve services and increase market reach. These companies, including government entities, are also looking at AI and other technologies to ensure effective cyber security systems.

The recent focus of the Philippine government on infrastructure development provides opportunities for AI & Big Data solutions for mobility (airports, rail systems, transport hubs, traffic management), telecommunications (faster & wider internet coverage) and energy (distribution automation, demand response programs, advanced outage management, energy storage, and smart streetlights).

Travel

Participants are advised to book their own flights. Philippine Airlines now flies direct from London Heathrow to Manila.  Other airlines that operate regular flights to Manila include Emirates (via Dubai), Etihad (via Abu Dhabi), KLM (via Amsterdam), Cathay Pacific (via Hong Kong) and Singapore Airlines (via Singapore) from Heathrow.

Hotel

We will negotiate a discounted corporate rate with a reputable local hotel for UK participants’ accommodation during the Mission. You will need to stay for at least 2 nights (3 & 4 Feb) and settle your own hotel expenses. DIT Manila will help you book your hotel rooms.
