What will I learn?

Organised by DIT South West Sector Specialist for Advanced Engineering and Automotive, Barbara Singleton, you'll have the opportunity to hear about the current state of the automotive sector in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

You'll also hear about what countries and cities are planning in terms of investments and what opportunities exist for SW based companies. Please scroll down the page to see the list of speakers.

DIT SW & DIT Posts will also be organising bespoke meetings with Central European cities for South West Automotive companies.

At the end of the session, South West companies will have the opportunity to ask questions to all participating Trade Officers in the Q&A session.

 

Why Central Europe?

Central Europe has been one of the hubs for automotive manufacturing for more than 20 years, and now countries in the region are thinking increasingly about the future, SMART Mobility, more sustainable and environmental-friendly public transport.

 

Who is this event for?

We are looking for South West companies offering automotive products or services with an interest in exporting.

Markets focus is on Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

Unfortunately we are unable to accept bookings out of the South West area.

Speakers

Tim Buisseret, Country Director, DIT - Bulgaria

Tim Buisseret is the Country Director for Bulgaria with the UK Department for International Trade. Before that he spent many years in the telecoms sector, including a period as General Manager of Mobikom, Bulgaria’s first mobile operator.

Having lived and worked in Bulgaria for twenty years, Tim is very familiar with the challenges and opportunities of doing business there, and is happy to help companies to succeed in the market.

 

Gábor Imeli, Senior Trade Adviser, DIT - British Embassy Budapest, Hungary

Gábor works as a Senior Trade Adviser at British Embassy in Hungary since 2012. Currently he focuses mainly on the automotive sector as well as dealing with high value infrastructure projects (energy, transport and construction). Prior to joining the local bureau of the Department of International Trade, Gábor collected experience at various institutions including the U.S. Embassy in Hungary, The German-Hungarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the European Parliament in Brussels.

 

Ljupcso Mihailovszki, Deputy Director, DIT - British Embassy Budapest, Hungary

Ljupcso leads on the Clean Mobility and Automotive campaign in Europe Central (EC) - with a team from 6 different EC countries (Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria). Their focus is on mobility, smart cities solutions and Electric Vehicles, although of course the classical supply chain still plays a major role in the region, together with agricultural and construction machinery.

Before joining DIT in 2017, Ljupcso worked for 7 years for Invest Macedonia, responsible for the CEE region, particularly focusing on exports from Macedonia to the CEE countries, as well as raising investments in particular from Poland and Hungary to Macedonia.

 

Emanuela Cristescu, Trade and Development Adviser, DIT- British Embassy Bucharest, Romania

Emanuela joined DIT 4 years ago as a Trade Development Adviser. She has a strong background on International Business with experience in market research, business matchmaking, and event & project management. She has been supporting strategic trade development work in collaboration with colleagues from Central European Network to promote and develop bilateral trade in the sectors of Energy, Infrastructure, Automotive and Defence and Security. In present, Emanuela leads on the Clean Mobility and Automotive sector including Smart City and proactively scopes opportunities in Romania on Agri-tech, predominantly on precision agriculture.

 

Malgorzata Olton, Key Account Manager – Clean Mobility and Automotive, DIT - Poland

Malgorzata leads the Clean Mobility and Automotive sector in Poland. Her focus is on clean mobility, Electric Vehicles and E-buses, EV battery development, charging infrastructure, R&D, hydrogen, as well as SMART city solutions and traditional automotive supply chain and aftermarket opportunities.

Malgorzata is keen to promote and assist UK business in Poland including introducing to relevant associations and stakeholders, exploring export opportunities, advising on business development, market access, political contacts and relevant events to help UK companies enter the Polish market with an impact

 

Michal Sventek, Trade Advisor, DIT - British Embassy Bratislava, Slovakia

Michal Sventek works as a Trade Advisor for the DIT at the British Embassy in Bratislava, Slovakia. He’s responsible for both Automotive and Healthcare sectors.

Michal has previous sales development experience from a tech start-up where he led a team of young professionals, searching for business opportunities and leads. He also worked for SARIO (Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency), helping Slovak and international partners with export and trade.

 

Ruta Aisthorpe, Head of International and Events, SMMT

Ruta oversees the UK automotive sector’s global trade promotion and overseas engagement. She has been a senior member of the SMMT’s Management team since 2015, ensuring the organisation has an effective international programme of activities to promote the UK automotive sector’s strengths and position the UK as a great place for automotive investment.
 
Ruta has experience and expertise in international campaigns, trade promotion and inward investment having worked for a number of organisations including UK Trade and Investment.
 
Multi-lingual and experienced in international communications and events, she currently helps UK automotive companies build trade links abroad, she has recently created and managed the UK International Advisory Board which brings together government departments, agencies, NGOs and stakeholders to align international activities and ensure a coordinated approach to automotive trade communications and events.

 

Paul Brooks, Head of Manufacturing, Automotive & Marine, Santander UK

Paul leads the Manufacturing Sector team with Santander Corporate & Commercial across the UK.  He took up this post in March 2017 and is responsible for developing a sector specific proposition. Key to Paul’s role is consulting with UK Manufacturers, advisers and trade bodies to ensure the proposition developed is fit for purpose. Given the current challenges and uncertainties Paul is heavily focused on helping UK Manufacturers to improve productivity and to look at new markets beyond the UK. This fits well with Santander’s global footprint.  Paul has 20+ years’ experience of working with UK manufacturers both SMEs and larger Tier 2 & Tier 1 suppliers to OEMs.
