Join key officials from the Department for International Trade (DIT) and Export to Japan for a comprehensive look at the Japanese eCommerce market in 2021.

Ecommerce in Japan is led by two brands that are little known in the west: Rakuten and PayPay Mall. The third name is more familiar: Amazon.

Overall, online marketplaces, rather than conventional online stores, dominate ecommerce in Japan. A survey of Japanese consumers by the Ecommerce Foundation found that 39% had bought from an online marketplace in the last month.

What will I learn?

This webinar is suitable for both new and existing exporters to Japan and will cover steps to start or further expand presence in the Japanese market. Both the legal and regulatory environments will also be discussed, ensuring attendees receive the most relevant updates on market conditions.

Why Japan?

Japan is currently the third largest economy in the world and in 2019, UK exports to Japan had increased 8.5% from the previous year. Japan is an advanced economy and a stable place for the UK to do business, with strong economic and political ties between the two countries cemented with the signing of a free trade agreement (CEPA) in September 2020.

This operation was recognised for unique innovation and has gone on to support thousands of UK businesses to sell their products and services in Japan.
