Speakers

Joanne Freeman - British Consul General for Queensland and the Northern Territory and the Director of Trade for Australia & New Zealand

Jo Freeman is the British Consul General for Queensland and the Northern Territory and the Director of Trade for Australia & New Zealand at the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT).  

Before arriving in Brisbane Jo worked as the Deputy Consul General in Sydney and has previously worked for DIT in various roles overseas including India and Canada. As the Head of Learning & Development at UK Trade and Investment, she delivered training courses across the overseas network and in the UK.

Before coming to Australia in October 2016, Jo was DIT’s Deputy Regional Director for London. In this role she was responsible for managing stakeholder relationships across the London region and helping London companies explore export opportunities overseas.

 

Robert Lissauer, Director, Hall Chadwick Melbourne Chartered Accountants

 

Robert is a Chartered Accountant, business advisor and Director at Hall Chadwick Melbourne with over 35 years in public practice. His specialties cover providing advice to owner-managed businesses and private family groups, supporting their owners and management. He advises clients in relation to the structuring of their affairs, taxation, management strategies and intergenerational transition.

Robert supports foreign owned entities on their strategic plans to enter and operate in the Australian market. He advises on the considerations for doing business in Australia, business structures and cross border taxation issues. Likewise, he advises outbound businesses and leverages his knowledge of global markets and connections to his client’s advantage. His proactive and direct involvement in service delivery ensures his clients have immediate access to expertise irrespective of their location and time zone.

He has tenured multiple Chair and Board positions in corporate, community and professional associations. Robert also supports a number of charities and leads and mentors young professionals. He serves on the Board of PrimeGlobal as an Asia Pacific Director and member of the PrimeGlobal Asia Pacific Regional Council.

 

John Haig, Director,  Hall Chadwick Melbourne Chartered Accountants

John Haig is a leading member of our GST Advisory specialist team. He is a highly experienced advisor and tax agent specialising in the more complex issues in GST, wine tax and luxury car tax as well as supporting clients whilst they are undergoing ATO audit.

He has advised many clients and their advisors, delivered numerous presentations and authored various papers on the major issues in GST, which inevitably involves a strong focus on real property transactions.

John is a former Director of Price Waterhouse and SLA Partners (antecedent of Hall Chadwick Melbourne). He was with the Australian Taxation Office for 17 years in sales tax.

He is a longstanding Fellow of the Tax Institute, a long-serving member of the indirect taxes sub-committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand and a CPA.

Mark Gray, Click Frenzy | Global Marketplaces

Mark Gray is a leading expert in everything online marketplaces with over 15 years’ experience in helping retailers and manufacturers reach their full potential in Australasia, UK, EU, USA and China.

His past roles include helping to launch both Catch marketplace in Australia and TheMarket.com in New Zealand. As Managing Director for Australasia at ChannelAdvisor, Mark worked directly with eBay, Amazon, TradeMe, China’s TMall, South Korea’s GMarket and Japan’s Rakuten, to name a few. 

Mark's passions include cross border trade and helping brands and manufacturers learn how to grow their businesses online globally.

 

Barney Willis, The Hut Group

Barney Willis is currently Senior Vice President of eCommerce at THG Ingenuity (The Hut Group), responsible for DTC projects primarily in the UK & Europe but also into the US, Asia and MENA regions. THG is best known as a highly significant brand owner with global number one nutrition brand MyProtein.com and number one online beauty retailer LookFantastic, famously having bought them as niche, unknown brands 9 years ago. Ingenuity, the division Barney represents, offers the same extremely successful digital playbook and end-to-end ecommerce ecosystem which grew these businesses to other brands to help them grow. 

Prior to THG, Barney led the commercial organisations for ChannelAdvisor, the leading global online Marketplace integration business, Anatwine, the fashion focused brand to retailer integrator, now owned by German powerhouse Zalando and most recently Pentagon, a marketplace technology and operations business based in the UK. He's very familiar with all of the challenges associated with expansion out of the UK, and developing strategies to help brands and retailers dominate in their field, be that demand generation, or setting the infrastructure and technology in place to provide a best-in-class experience for a brands customers.
