Sustainable Infrastructure

Join a series of virtual roundtable events to hear from industry leaders in the Malaysian and Indonesian construction sector

The Department of Business and Trade (DBT) is delighted to invite businesses from across the North of England and the Midlands region to receive a detailed insight into the sustainable infrastructure opportunities in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Sustainable practices are a growing trend worldwide, with many nations setting ambitious targets and some even introducing new regulations which can have a significant impact on exporters.

Creating structures that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout their entire life cycles, helps to reduce negative impacts on the environment by using sustainable materials and employing renewable energy sources that reduce emissions and other waste.

These virtual roundtable events will be particularly useful to companies involved in green building solutions, including energy efficiency, sustainable site planning and management, material, resources and water efficiency.

Sustainable infrastructure opportunities in Malaysia
Thursday 28 November 2024, 08:30 - 09:30
Virtual - Microsoft Teams

Decades of growth and stability have helped make Malaysia an industrialised, open economy with consistent growth. Malaysia’s smart cities framework launched by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government in 2019 is driving demand for solutions in a variety of sectors, including environment and resource management, which are underpinned by an updated digital infrastructure.

Sustainable practices in the construction industry are being pursued to support the net zero by 2050 target set by the Malaysian government, with a growing number of green buildings and sustainable development projects. Under the Twelfth Malaysian Plan (12MP), promoting economic empowerment, environmental sustainability and social re-engineering, the Malaysian government encourages green building design and enhancing energy efficiency, resource management and natural disaster resilience.

With a population of over 270 million and ambitious targets to reach net zero, Indonesia offers expansive potential and a large consumer base. UK companies are already flourishing in Indonesia, some with a presence that stretches back over 100 years.
