Cross-Education Mission to Japan
Monday, 28 July 2025 - Wednesday, 30 July 2025
The Department for Business and Trade, The Department for Education, and the British Council are organising a high-profile, ministerially led education delegation to Japan, aimed at showcasing the strength and diversity of British education to targeted Japanese partners and stakeholders. A key part of the mission will be a roundtable and reception for UK and Japanese ministers, investors and education providers at the UK Pavillion, Osaka Expo 2025.
The visit will bring together representatives from leading British Schools, universities, and English language assessment providers with a focus on:
- Building Strategic partnerships with Japanese institutions.
- Promoting UK education and qualifications.
- Exploring market opportunities and student recruitment prospects.
- Sharing best practise in teaching, assessment and internationalisation.
The mission is well timed to take advantage of several growing trends:
- Japanese students are increasingly interested in short term study abroad, foundations programmes and English-medium degree programmes.
- The UK is seen as a prestigious destination especially for arts humanities and business.
- There is scope for collaborative degrees, TNE and partnerships with Japanese universities.
- British independent schools have opened in Japan and are proving popular.
The programme will include targeted networking events, roundtable discussions, site visits and meetings with government officials, education investors, schools and universities.
