Basics

All attendees should aim to arrive in Porto on Tuesday 8th October in order to be ready for a 08:30 morning start on Wednesday 9th October.

We aim to finish the conference by 13:00 on Thursday 10th October so those who can take flights back that afternoon or early evening should do so. For those who cannot travel back this day, they can take the next available flight on Friday 11th October. Any TOIL accrued due to travel outside of working hours should be dicussed with your Line manager.

The conference itself will take place in the Guimarães I room in the hotel.

If you have a name badge from a previous conference, please bring it! We purchased the wooden/bamboo badges to be reused and this year we are not buying more. There will however be basic name tags for anyone without or who forgets theirs.

Located in the central Boavista district, the hotel is a short walk from the futuristic and iconic structure that is Casa da Musica which hosts concerts as well as being home to the botanical gardens.

Group Dinner

There will be a group dinner on the evening of 9th October at restaurant Vinum. We will get to and from the restaurant by coaches. Please check back later for exact timings.

Transportation

Getting to the hotel from the airport:

The metro is extremely easy to navigate and simple and safe to use. One line goes from the Airport to the city and that is the purple line E.

Buying a ticket:

When you have made your way to the metro station at the airport, you will see ticket machines: you can select a different language to make things easier. There is also a list of metro stops and it will tell you which type of ticket you need i.e. how many zones you need to pass through to get to the stop.

If you want to add 2 journeys you can as then you will have a valid ticket for the return journey.

We reccommend you get out at FRANCOS stop and then it is a 13 minute walk to the hotel. You could also choose to get out at CASA DA MUSICA which is one stop further, and you walk along Avenue da Boavista.

NOTE: You will automatically get an Andante public transport card - and your journey will be loaded on to it...this is a reusable ticket - DO NOT THROW IT AWAY! The idea is you load journeys on to this each time you use the metro. Please get a receipt.

You must validate your ticket by holding it against the yellow card readers at the station: the light will flash green once it validates. You do not need to do this again unless you change metro line.

GOING HOME: If you didn't add a second journey at the airport when you first purchased the ticket, you can load another jourey/ title using the machine at any metro stop to return to the airport. Simply change the language and follow the instructions to add titles and then place your Andante card in the holder and pay using your Corporate card.
