Advanced Manufacturing
Trade Mission to Turkiye
Event date: 20 – 22 November 2024
Location: Istanbul, Turkiye
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) in collaboration with Midlands Engine Partnership and MEXT Technology Centre in Turkiye is delighted to invite businesses, R&D institutions and sector organisations from across the Midlands to submit an expression of interest to participate in a trade mission to Turkiye.
About the Event
Designed for export-ready companies who operate in Advanced Manufacturing and interested in doing business with Turkiye, UK delegates will have a chance to learn about the manufacturing sector and capabilities in Turkiye, promote their services and capabilities to Turkish manufacturing industry, and connect with representatives of sector organisations to increase their reach.
The main event will take place at MEXT Technology Centre, a state-of-the-art digital factory established to support manufacturing businesses in Turkiye in their digital and clean transformation. Founded by MESS (Turkish Employers’ Association of Metal Industries) in 2019, MEXT is a digital transformation and capability building centre with Turkiye's first digital production factory which is end-to-end integrated from sales forecasting, supply chain to production systems and quality management. It provides a flexible digital infrastructure for developing new applications for digital transformation in the industry in Turkiye, which can support entrepreneurs and university researchers.
About the Market
In the last 20-25 years, Turkiye's manufacturing industry has evolved from an industry dominated by low technology content to an industry producing medium to medium-high technology. This transformation was led by the automotive and white goods sectors. Current data show that these sectors have reached a certain maturity, but that structural transformation in industry has stalled, with little movement towards high-tech products.¹
Market studies indicate a need for the manufacturing companies to update their data analytics, production processes and maintenance processes capabilities in the context of the digitization. Domestic and smaller firms are more in need of upgrading their supply chain processes. After-sales service and predictive maintenance are among the gaps in the machinery industry. There is also a heightened awareness of the Green Deal and the pledge to achieve net-zero carbon emissions in Europe, with recognition by Turkish companies of the need to upgrade supply chain products accordingly.
