Meet the Delegates from the UK's Northern Powerhouse region

 

Foreword:

We are delighted to bring a delegation of companies from the North of England, also known as the Northern Powerhouse to Medica 2023. The mission offers unique opportunities to build ties with key decision makers and innovators around the world for delegates and buyers alike.

The UK boasts a strong heritage in the life sciences and healthcare sectors. From the pioneering discovery of the structure of DNA to the development of Computer Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) the UK has always been a world leader in medical innovation. This innovation has continued into the 21st Century with the UK leading the way in areas such as regenerative medicine, antibody therapies and the application of robotic surgery technology. These advances demonstrate the important contribution that UK science and medicine is making to radically improve patient care.

The healthcare and the life sciences sectors are one of most dynamic and productive sectors in the Northern economy and the UK and has one of the largest clusters of orthopedic, medical device and surgical companies in the UK and is home to many innovative and ground- breaking companies. Over 1,000 life sciences companies in the Northern Powerhouse with the aim to contribute to economic growth and prosperity while supporting and creating highly skilled jobs.

The North has many centres of excellence, including the home of wonder material graphene in Manchester, a centre of excellence in precision medicine in Leeds, the School of Tropical Medicine in Liverpool, the Institute for Ageing in Newcastle and one of the UK’s largest medical devices clusters in Sheffield. The Northern Powerhouse’s life sciences sectors unite a wealth of world-class expertise and business talent.

LightOx has developed light activated drugs for the treatment of oral cancer. LXD191 can be applied topically to cancerous lesions in the oral cavity and activity using a specific light source to treat the oral dysplasia.
