The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is bringing together the Head of Exports for Eastern Europe & Central Asia and our own Export Champions with experience in the region to meet with businesses based in the Midlands.
Join like-minded businesses from your area and gain insights into the huge range of opportunities available. You will hear directly from exporters about their experience in the market and establish new business relationships.
This event is targeted at companies based within the Midlands who are export ready with a High Export Potential (HEP).
HEP businesses are defined as:
- Having a turnover of £500,000 or more per annum
- Having a product or service suitable for export
Markets in focus
- Turkiye:
Turkiye is the world’s 18th largest economy in terms of GDP (2023) and the UK’s 16th largest trading market. Turkiye presents significant opportunities for UK businesses in advanced engineering and manufacturing (including rail, aerospace and maritime), automotive, clean growth, mining, and healthcare and life sciences.
Azerbaijan:
Azerbaijan serves as a logistics hub with the biggest airport, seaport, and railway network in the Caspian region. International businesses based in the country can use this position and Azerbaijan’s extensive Free Trade Agreements to re-export within the region and beyond. Key opportunities include renewable energy, ICT, healthcare, infrastructure, security (including demining and cybersecurity) and agriculture.
Kazakhstan:
Kazakhstan is the 9th largest country in the world (by land mass) and Central Asia’s largest economy. Kazakhstan possesses substantial fossil fuel reserves and other minerals and metals, such as uranium, copper, and zinc. It also has a large agricultural sector featuring livestock and grain. The government has made initial attempts to diversify its economy by targeting sectors like transport, healthcare, telecommunications, and food processing for greater development and investment.
Ukraine:
The UK has signed Memorandum of Understanding with the Ukrainian government to take forward future cooperation on reconstruction efforts and a new Digital Trade Agreement (DTA) that will help Ukraine rebuild its economy and support livelihoods following Russia’s illegal invasion. Digital and services, water and sanitation, energy, power, and transport are the focus sectors to facilitate reconstruction efforts.
Uzbekistan:
Uzbekistan is the most populous country in Central Asia and has a rapidly growing population. The Government has set a target of developing 12GW+ of renewable energy by 2030 and is looking to modernise the grid. There are great opportunities for UK engineering and procurement businesses and renewable energy solutions suppliers. Education and financial and professional services are the other sectors with opportunities.
