About SEWG meeting

Spectrum Reallocation and IMT Preparation

This session will involve updates from participating countries on spectrum reallocation, particularly focusing on the 700, 800, 2300, and 2600 MHz bands, as well as the 3.4-3.8 GHz and other ranges. Each country will share its strategies for freeing up these bands for IMT, along with insights on their 5G deployment plans and candidate bands. The session aims to foster an understanding of regional advancements in spectrum preparation and how these align with international IMT requirements.

Technological Advancements in Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB)

A comprehensive presentation on the DAB family of technologies, including DAB, DAB+, and DMB, will examine the differences and similarities between these systems. Key topics will include their optimal use of spectrum, compatibility with ETSI/ITU standards, and advantages for emergency broadcasting. The discussion will also explore radio emission comparisons and coverage predictions to evaluate DAB's efficiency against other broadcasting technologies.

 Spectrum Strategy for Vertical Markets

National strategy for spectrum allocation will be discussed, with a focus on provisions for vertical industries and the implications of the 3rd RSPG opinion. This segment will also delve into the management of the 4 GHz band, detailing spectrum use for specialized industry needs and its broader impact on spectrum harmonization within the EU, explore the growing role of 5G private networks in supporting diverse industries.

5G Security Toolbox & Corporate Networks (EU4Digital)

This session will provide an in-depth examination of the 5G security toolbox, with a particular emphasis on encryption, authentication, and network slicing security measures. Emphasis will be placed on emerging cyber threats and how this toolbox equips 5G networks to resist these challenges, ensuring both robustness and resilience in a rapidly evolving threat landscape, the implementation and regulatory aspects of corporate access in the context of 5G networks. The spectrum allocation, harmonized use, terms of use, auction rules etc are crucial for success. It aims to discuss how this tool can optimize spectrum usage, promote fair access, and support the growing demand for wireless services.

Regional Spectrum Agreement (RSA) and Eastern Partnership Focus

A round table discussion will cover the latest updates to the Regional Spectrum Agreement (RSA) and key issues facing the Eastern Partnership region. Attendees will discuss potential amendments to the agreement, aligning strategies with EU neighboring countries, and addressing any new spectrum management concerns that have emerged. The session will also provide an opportunity to propose additional topics for SEWG's ongoing working plan.

Broadband Infrastructure Mapping

This session will highlight recent developments in broadband infrastructure mapping, with a focus on rural connectivity. Topics will include ITU tools for identifying points of interest, overlaying data on fiber and microwave network coverage, and using static and interactive maps for better infrastructure analysis. Financial modeling and case studies will also demonstrate how this mapping supports investment in underserved areas.

---

Each of these topics is set to play a crucial role in the development and management of spectrum resources, supporting 5G deployment, and aligning regional efforts with EU objectives for connectivity and security. The SEWG meeting will serve as a platform for member states to discuss, strategize, and harmonize their approaches to spectrum management and 5G technology.

The working language of the meeting will be English and Russian.
