Let’s talk about (grid) connections – the UK’s road to Net Zero

The UK is setting ambitious targets for renewable energy as part of its path to NetZero, aiming for 43-50 GW of offshore wind, 27-29 GW of onshore wind, and 45-47 GW of solar power by 2030.

These efforts are poised to significantly reduce fossil-fuel dependency. Recent achievements include the electricity system running at 95% zero carbon for a short period last year and the complete phase-out of coal from the power system in September 2024, showcasing the power of world-leading engineering and innovation.

However, the grid connection queue has grown tenfold over the past five years, now containing an equivalent capacity of 739 GW. The current 'first come, first served' approach does not account for the optimal mix of energy projects or their ideal locations.

In response, the UK is collaborating with regulators and operators to reform grid connectivity by removing unviable projects, re-ordering the queue, and accelerating connection timescales for the most critical projects.

Why Attend?

  • Expert Insights: Hear directly from those drafting and implementing upcoming changes to grid connectivity.
  • Strategic Networking: Engage with key stakeholders and industry leaders driving these reforms.
  • Actionable Information: Get your questions answered and understand how these changes will impact your organization.

Join us to gain a comprehensive understanding of these pivotal changes and their implications for the future of renewable energy in the UK.

Additionally, you can register for NORWEP’s UK offshore wind market update and supply chain opportunities event, which will be held the same day at 9am online.

We look forward to welcoming you on April 29, to enjoy timely discussions and forging new partnerships.
