Dave Allett
Export Sales Manager
Dave Allett joined the family business started by his father in 1965, at the age of 18, after a brief spell as a professional cricketer for Leicestershire. As for many people involved in small family businesses, he was involved in many different aspects including, purchasing, finance and spare parts, but sales became his main role and also took a particular interest in exports. Following a takeover of the business, he became General Manager for Trimax Mowing Systems in the UK in 2000 and as a Francophile, he moved to the South of France in 2004 and ran a hospitality business. In 2015, he was offered the position of Export Sales Manager with his old firm Allett Mowers, a position he still holds today. Since re-joining Allett, export sales have more than trebled, and Allett was awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise – International Trade in 2019.

Raj has nearly 20 years of experience in delivering advice, guidance and coaching support to businesses across the UK working with hundreds of businesses across many different sectors to successfully develop and execute their growth strategies.

Raj has worked with organisations across the private, public and voluntary sectors including Business Link West Midlands, SWEDA and the Black Country Chamber of Commerce helping to both develop and deliver business support programmes enabling businesses to develop their Leadership and Management capabilities, address their skills and training needs as well as accessing available grant funding support.

Whilst working with the Black Country Chamber of Commerce Raj supported businesses to access advice and support from DIT to help them explore exporting for the first time to growing their exporting capabilities.

When you are looking at exporting it is important to be realistic in your initial expectations and be prepared for the unexpected. Begin with a plan. Decide on what you want to achieve, and where you want to achieve it from. Be realistic and be patient. It can take years to build a sustainable reputation internationally. Take time to build a network and reliable routes to market. Start small and build your reputation. It’s rare to achieve instant success. Start with small orders so that if you can learn safely without making too costly mistakes with shipping, taxes etc.”

Rebecca Parker

Rebecca is anaccredited, qualified Business Advisor for the Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire Growth Hub and manages the Business Support Helpline for the County that is accessible to all Staffordshire SME’s seeking advice and support. The Business Helpline acts as the focal point for businesses that wish to start or grow, where Rebecca provides information to the co-ordinated and cohesive growth programme information, access to business networks, growth groups and links to specialist information, grant and business funding advice and services.

Rebecca advises on eligibility for ERDF funding for businesses trading within the LEP area. With extensive knowledge and strong stakeholder relationships County-wide, Rebecca is keen to promote the drive for strong, sustainable business growth across Staffordshire with her strong interpersonal expertise and proficiency in business support & development, evident in her successful career history in both public and private sector roles ranging from her time in the West Mercia Constabulary, policing, to a successful career as the UK Business manager for the Chartered Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.

Rebecca is largely involved in the running of the Growth Hub business support workshops, seminars and events along with offering businesses the flexible option to meet for a confidential 1-2-1 Business diagnostic across Stafford Borough, through to North Staffordshire.
