The Department for International Trade invites food and drink producers from across the Midlands Engine to participate in this innovative two-part market visit to prepare for and visit the world’s largest food event – Gulfood 2022 in Dubai.

About Gulfood 2022

Held annually, the last edition of Gulfood hosted 2,500 exhibitors and nearly 60,000 visitors from 160 countries making it one of the largest Food and Drink exhibitions globally.

About the visit

With an expectation that borders will be open for travel we are offering an exciting programme including virtual activities between September and January, delivered in partnership with the Great British Food Platform, as well as a physical market visit to Gulfood in February 2022.

This market visit is ideal for businesses wanting to grow their sales and operate in Food and Drink sub-sectors such as Premium Grocery, Health & Wellness, Free From and Fortified Products. Please note, companies interested in selling alcohol into the region will not be accepted on this activity.

Programme details

This innovative two-part programme includes the following:


Part 1: Virtual Activities, September 2021 - January 2022

  • GCC market update in the UK
  • Food & Drink UAE Market Update
  • How to best to present your products virtually using a smartphone course
  • Inclusion of product sample hampers for interested buyers on the UK-based Great British Food Programme platform: November 2021 - January 2022
  • Meet the Buyer - January 2022*

    *We are currently liaising with buyers to find out what opportunities they have to offer for our Virtual Meet the Buyer event in January 2022. Once this has been confirmed in September, we will review your registration of interest and advise if you are eligible to participate in this event.

    Please note that this is not applicable to those joining the physical visit to Gulfood 2022, where all participants will be invited to attend.


Part 2: Market Visit to Gulfood Exhibition, 13 – 17 February 2022 (Physical or Virtual participation)

  • Pre market briefing
  • Midlands UK shared meeting space on the UK pavilion at Middle Easts biggest Food and drink exhibition
  • Product showcase
  • Inclusion in the Midlands Engine brochure
  • Opportunity to network and make new business connections and meet DIT staff from the GCC region

Costs & Funding

There is a fee of just £99 plus VAT for virtual participation only, and £150 plus VAT to join our physical visit to the Gulfood Exhibition.

Upon confirmation of your eligibility to take part in this programme, you will be responsible for the cost of sending sample hamper products to the Great British Food Platform. You will also be responsible for booking and paying for flights and accommodation if you select and be accepted on the physical visit.

Eligible companies who participate in the physical delegation may qualify for financial support of up to £565 per company towards the cost of flights and accommodation. This offer is subject to eligibility compliance upon application.
