IR35, worker status and the end of self-employment?
 
Andrew Hubbard

Andrew Hubbard is editor in chief of New Tolley and Taxation magazine, published by LexisNexis, and a consultant at RSM.

Andrew initially trained as an inspector of taxes before joining the accountancy profession. He has worked in a ‘big four’ environment and was a partner in BDO Stoy Hayward and then Tenon before joining RSM and LexisNexis.

He is also past president of both the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) as well as an accomplished musician.

 
Charlie Hicks

Charlie is the managing Director at EIC Insurance, he joined EIC in May 2009 and has over 10 years’ experience in financial services.

Established in 1973 as EIC Financial Services, the firm evolved into an independent insurance broker in 1990 and works to protect many different areas of people’s lives, from business to travels. It is independent and a member of the Broker Network.

 
Ian Dodge

Ian recently joined Haines Watt bringing over 20 years’ experience in Private Client Services (having previously worked with Smith & Williamson, PKF and BDO).

His role encompasses direct tax aspects of circumstances and transactions ranging from private tax and estate planning to property taxes and the restructuring of businesses. His work covers principally UK tax matters but includes extensive experience of residence and domicile issues and related planning. Ian has particular expertise in Tax Return Compliance, Tax Advisory, Accounting, Partnership Taxation, Tax Accounting, and Income Tax.

Outside of work, Ian loves to spend time with his family, is a keen player and supporter of rugby, and is a cooking/BBQ enthusiast.

 
Sandra Martins

Sandra is the Head of Employment at Radius Law where she joined the team in 2016. Sandra brings over 17 years’ experience in advising employers and employees on all aspects of employment law, having specialised in employment since qualifying and is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.

Her areas of expertise include advising on TUPE (including in an insolvency context), providing specialist support on corporate transactions and guiding clients through restructures and collective redundancies, including information and consultation obligations. She also regularly advises both employers and employees on executive exits and settlement negotiations.

Sandra also regularly represents clients in high profile tribunal claims. She recently led a team that successfully defended over 500 individual and 10 union claims (on behalf of 500+ members), which arose after a client’s acquisition of an insolvent business. This included TUPE, redundancy, unfair dismissal and discrimination claims with a potential liability of over £17 million.
