Can microgravity help solve real-world challenges in biopharma R&D?

Developed from the UK-Swiss Microgravity Biopharma Dialogue, convened by the British Embassy Berne on 29th June 2026, this report brings together insights from leaders across biopharma, space, academia, regulation and government to explore how microgravity could address real-world challenges in drug development.

Rather than asking what microgravity can do, the Dialogue focused on a more important question: what would make pharmaceutical companies act? The findings reveal opportunities for microgravity to generate faster, more decision-relevant data, accelerate R&D, and support breakthroughs in areas such as drug reformulation, disease modelling and drug discovery.

The report identifies drug reformulation as the strongest near-term opportunity, with the potential to improve stability, delivery, patient convenience and commercial value for high-value therapies. It also explores the longer-term promise of organoids and disease models, while setting out a practical roadmap for pilot programmes that can turn scientific potential into commercial reality.

For policymakers, researchers, investors and industry leaders, the report offers a clear pathway to move microgravity from scientific curiosity to a credible tool for biopharma innovation.
