The Department for International Trade (DIT) has announced a series of measures to support businesses in the consumer and retail industry to export overseas as part of its efforts to help the sector recover from COVID-19. This support will focus on market education, enhanced digital tools and access to growing cross-border ecommerce opportunities, as well as increased marketing of the UK’s strengths at international events, and boosting investment opportunities for retail tech. 

 

DigiSkills sessions
The DigiSkills Programme is designed to give you tangible tips and instant action points on a specific topic of digital commerce to increase your presence overseas. The 1 hour session will be a 10 minute presentation from Digital Trade Adviser, Charlie Garnham, followed by an interactive discussion with the businesses in the virtual room, including live audits from Charlie. Send a marketing colleague along to up skill them, or come along yourself to learn more. Sessions will have max 5 people per session.

The Spotlight on Northern Territory virtual trade mission was held from 17 March to 31 March 2022 and focused on the fastest growing sectors in Northern Territory (Critical Minerals, Renewable Energy, Hydrogen, CCUS). The Africa Business Group meetings provide information, support, and identifies trade opportunities in Africa for companies working with DIT in North West of England. 

The 8th event in the Series will focus on trading with Nigeria - Africa’s biggest country by population and its second largest economy. The UK and Nigeria have a strong partnership that builds on longstanding economic ties.

The invite is open to new and proficient Exporters.  Companies will learn from DIT country representatives for Nigeria on the latest updates, how to trade successfully and the opportunities and challenges for exporters in a variety of sectors. Also included in the line-up is a UK Export Finance specialist for Western Africa, the Northern Powerhouse Advisor responsible for the African Continent and a North West company, well experienced in doing business successfully in the Nigerian market.

Discover how to access co-investment funding from the Department for International Trade for SMEs who want to grow into new overseas markets The Department for International Trade and European Regional Development Fund have launched a new Internationalisation Fund for eligible SMEs based in England. What is the Internationalisation Fund? Launched in December 2020, the Internationalisation Fund provides match-funded grants between £1,000 and £9,000 to use for future business activities (subject to eligibility and availability) aimed at helping SMEs grow in new international markets. To secure a grant, you will need to fund a proportion of your costs yourself. This varies according to where your business is based. SMEs based in England can now apply for the next round of funds which can be used to support eligible expenditure areas. Please note grants offered under the Internationalisation Fund are available on a limited basis and the actual availability of funds in the different English Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) areas can vary based on demand and the number of applications already approved
