About the event
On behalf of the European Commission and of the city of Liepāja, it is our pleasure to invite you to a workshop on Integrated Sustainable Urban Development in the Baltic States.

The workshop, organised in the context of the Urban Development Network is open to the cities of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania implementing sustainable urban development in accordance with Article 7 of Regulation 1301/2013 (ERDF) and to organisations active in urban development in these countries as well as to the Managing Authorities. Other cities may also participate upon request.

The 1.5 day Urban Development Network event will bring together cities, organisations active in urban development and national and regiοnal public authorities in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in order to exchange ideas and find possible solutions to common challenges of the cities in the Baltic States with respect to integrated sustainable urban development.

The workshop will be organised around three thematic sessions on the challenges common to the cities in the Baltic States which will be moderated by experienced urban experts. During the thematic sessions presentations from the cities of Tartu, Liepāja and Kaunas will provide the opportunity to participants to discuss regarding major challenges that they face. In addition best practice examples from cities outside the Baltic States followed by roundtable discussions with practitioners from all the participating cities will take place. On the second day of the event a common session will take place in order to summarize the outcomes of the thematic sessions with adequate time for comments and questions.

In addition, the workshop will offer the participating cities the opportunity to have a one to one discussion with experts from the secretariat for Urban Innovative Actions on projects that they would like to submit in future Urban Innovative Action calls and get feedback and advice on how to improve their proposals. The cities will also receive information on the opportunities for financing their urban projects and strategies from URBIS, the new dedicated urban investment advisory platform developed in partnership by the European Commission (DG REGIO) and the European Investment Bank.
