PreFree: For a safer pregnancy

Our Mission

Maternal mortality is unacceptably high. As a leading cause of maternal mortality, preeclampsia and related hypertensive disorders of pregnancy claim the lives of nearly 76,000 mothers and 500,000 babies worldwide every year. This life-threatening complication of pregnancy can be prevented by better diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring. PreFree can do this. It is an AI-based decision support tool for physicians to identify pregnant women at risk for pregnancy complications, especially preeclampsia. PreFree intends to reduce the risk of false diagnoses, to avoid unnecessary hospitalization, and to reduce healthcare costs via patient-centered remote care in the convenience and support of patients’ homes.

 
 

Our Vision

In the future, PreFree can add new technologies for additional benefits, and expand to other pregnancy complications and regions with an even higher prevalence of preeclampsia. This personalized patient-centered care will lead to smart resource allocation and patient empowerment. 

 
 

About the Project

Solution

This patient-centered solution was developed based on a clinical outcome database and user research with patients and physicians.

The solution aims to support physicians to identify the individual risk for preeclampsia, and to decide whether to hospitalize patients in need or to allow patients with low risk to return to their homes. The decision support solution will be complemented by a remote monitoring system that enables women returning home to closely monitor their signs and symptoms in a close loop with their physicians.

  • Partnership within Pharma or Medtech industry for co-development, and
    software documentation companies for co-development.

Successful application to the Innovationfonds!

17.11.2022

The application of PreFree to the Innovationfonds was a success: We are now eligible to provide a full proposal in the two-stage process. If we achieve this, PreFree will be evaluated in a large multicenter trial involving all relevant stakeholders.

Research Presentation Price for PreFree

Max Hackelöer received the Research Presentation Price


15.10.2022

Max Hackelöer received the Research Presentation Price on the National Congress of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics in Munich.

For his research on the impact of home-blood pressure monitoring data monitoring data into the PreFree predictive Algorithm, Max received the research price. Big success – highlighting the importance of remote monitoring technology for pregnancy care.

On September the 2nd of 2022, Oliver Rieger presented PreFree on the Data Natives Conference in Berlin.
Data Natives is Europe’s largest meeting point for the data-driven generation and world’s largest community of data-driven professionals.


PreFree at the ISSHP World Congress in Montpellier, France

30.08.2022

In Montpellier Stefan Verlohren presented the concept of PreFree at the biannual meeting of the International Society of Hypertension in Pregnancy. The ISSHP is the largest interdisciplinary community of researchers and clinicians that advance care for women with preeclampsia.

In the largest international meeting of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine community, Stefan Verlohren presented the concept of PreFree and an interim analysis of the Charité impact study.

Publication of the proof-of concept paper of the PreFree Algorithm

22.02.2022

The PreFree Team, with Leon as first author, published the proof-of-concept paper of the PreFree Algorithm in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The AJOG is one of the main scientific journals in the field of ObGyn. This is a huge milestone, as we were able to show that PreFree is superior to the standard of care.

PreFree at the PyData Global 2021

29.10.2021

Oliver Rieger presented PreFree on the PyData Global Conference 2021. PyData is the largest international developer community around Python and data, with 100+ regular regional events all over the world and one big international online conference each year.
