In The Netherlands there are two associated plug types, types C and F. Plug type C is the plug which has two round pins and plug type F is the plug which has two round pins with two earth clips on the side. The Netherlands operate on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz. If needed, please make sure you bring plug adaptors for your devices.

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) is approximately 28 miles away from the venue in Utrecht. The travel time from the airport to Utrecht ranges from approximately 30 - 60 minutes depending on which mode of public transport you take and the time of day you travel. Public transport is readily available from the airport and many services travel directly to Utrecht.

In The Netherlands, the legal drinking age is 18 years old. Tourists can consume alcohol in licensed restaurants, bars and hotels only.

Major credit and debit cards are accepted as a form of payment in most hotels, restaurants, banks and shops. However some smaller shops may only accept cash.

ATMs are readily available (though may charge a small withdrawal fee) and it is possible to obtain cash from most banks using your credit or debit card. ATMs are available in Utrecht Centraal Station and throughout Utrecht.

The currency in The Netherlands is the ‘Euro’ (EUR) (€).

Should you have any special dietary requirements (allergies, intolerances, etc.), please ensure that you detail this in your registration.

We are happy to support all dietary requirements but we must be notified before the conference. If we are not advised of special dietary requirements prior to your arrival, we may be unable to arrange something for you in advance and only the most basic option may be available to you on the day.

If your ticket to the conference includes flights, details of these flights will be displayed during your registration. You will receive your confirmed booking details a couple of weeks prior to the conference.

The closest main emergency hospital to the Crowne Plaza/Hampton by Hilton hotels is UMC Utrecht, located 4.5 miles away (15 minutes by car).

There are many pharmacies closely situated to the hotels however the closest pharmacy is Boots Pharmacy, located 300m away (6 minute walk).

Please ensure that you arrange appropriate health/travel insurance which covers you for the duration of your stay in The Netherlands.

Usual data roaming charges may/will apply (depending on your mobile phone provider) in The Netherlands as they would whenever you are on a trip abroad. Please check with your provider in terms of rates and costs associated with this prior to travel.

Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel/venue. Details on how you can access the Wi-Fi will be provided when you check-in.

For luggage allowance guidance, once you have received details of your confirmed flight booking (a couple of weeks prior to the conference) please refer to the airline website which will provide you with the relevant luggage allowance you are permitted to take onboard.

If applicable, please ensure you have all your necessary prescription medication for your stay in Utrecht. Individuals may bring medicine into the country for their personal use.

Please bring any medication in its original, clearly labelled packaging. A signed and dated letter from your physician describing your medical conditions and medication, including generic names, may also be necessary. If you are carrying syringes or needles, be sure to have a physician’s letter documenting its medical necessity. These items should be packed in your carry-on luggage. If you are susceptible to headaches, please ensure you have some paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin packed. If you are allergic to insect bites, stings, or certain foods it might also be wise to carry an EpiPen and/or a generic antibiotic or antihistamine.

If you are a British national travelling using a British passport, your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before the date you arrive. If your passport was issued more than 10 years before the date you arrive, you will need to renew it prior to travelling. Your passport must also have an expiry date of at least 3 months from the date you depart The Netherlands.

When you first arrive in your hotel room, please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the safety precautions and be aware of the nearest emergency exit route.

Utrecht is considered a safe city. However, should you choose to spend time on your own to explore, we do advise you to take some precautions (especially if you are not familiar with your surroundings):

Smoking is prohibited in most indoor public places and restaurants in Utrecht. Normal cigarettes, E-cigarettes, vapes and other tobacco products are legal in The Netherlands. The legal age to consume tobacco products is 18.

You should check with your mobile telephone provider for details on making and receiving calls whilst in Utrecht. To prevent high costs, please ensure that you have data roaming turned off while attending the conference – this should be activated prior to take-off otherwise data will download immediately once your flight safe mode is deactivated, upon arrival. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and is complimentary.

Please note: making international phone calls at the hotel is expensive, therefore we suggest avoiding using your bedroom telephone unless it is necessary. Any calls will be at your own personal cost. A more cost-effective alternative would be to call using WhatsApp, FaceTime, Skype or Teams instead.
