Events > Opportunities for Business Growth in the EU: Consumer Retail

Discover your business potential in the EU

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is delighted to invite UK companies to an event, supporting new to export and experienced companies in the Consumer Retail supply chain (B2B and B2C) who are targeting the EU.

The process of trade with our neighbours in the EU changed post Brexit. A key objective of this event is to dispel the myths and to support companies in becoming confident once again about trading with Europe

Why take part?

Delegates will hear from our panel of expert speakers covering the topics of:

  • Product testing/certification and EU authorised representative.
  • E-Commerce, fulfilment and bonded warehousing.
  • VAT advice and compliance.
  • Setting up in the EU.
  • Legal considerations.
  • A fireside talk with Régis Schultz, CEO of JD Sports, followed by Q&A Session

Wednesday 18 September 2024, 09:30 - 15:00

Irwin Mitchell, 4 Wellington Pl, Leeds LS1 4BZ

A networking lunch will give you the opportunity to meet with like-minded businesses, as well as our expert speakers. Following the lunch, round table sessions offer you the chance for a deep dive into each topic. Companies from the Beauty and Cosmetics industry will find the session covering product testing/certification and EU Responsible Person representatives of particular interest.

The aim of the event is for you to leave the event with a clear picture of how to successfully sell into the EU and continue to work with DBT to drawing up your strategic export plan.

Why the EU?

Comprising 449m consumers [Eurostat July ’24], the EU is the world’s largest single market. Retail has the largest industrial ecosystem, accounting for 11.5% of EU value added. The retail ecosystem encompasses various sectors, including grocery and non-grocery retail, wholesale, and online platforms. It is closely interconnected between manufacturers, importers, packaging, transportation and logistics service providers, postal and courier service providers, fulfilment centres, marketing, financial and payment services, and retail real estate.

The expert speakers will help you decipher the optimum route to supply this 449 million consumer market and will outline the knowledge and skills needed to understand and comply with EU rules and regulations.
