The next INSOL Webinar will take place on Wednesday 20 November, 1:00pm GMT.
Debt-for-nature swaps involve replacing existing sovereign debt with a combination of new debt (on more favourable terms) and funding for environmental activities to implement pre-agreed conservation commitments. The key to these transactions is designing a structure and agreeing terms which meet the diverse needs of the key stakeholders including the sovereign, the investors and the project sponsors. Although they were originally developed in the 1980s and 1990s, these transactions are now increasing in number, size and sophistication as the market evolves to find ways to unlock resources to address climate and environmental challenges.
The INSOL International Financiers Group panel will discuss the state of the market for debt-for-nature swaps. We will explain the key actors in these transactions as well as the documentation and outlook. We will also discuss the mechanisms that have been developed to measure and enforce the environmental obligations
