The Department for Business and Trade are excited to be planning a combined schools and skills mission to Nigeria for a series of impactful engagements. Nigeria is a priority country in the UK’s International Education Strategy, and, following previous engagements led by Professor Sir Steve Smith, the UK Government International Education Champion, DBT have developed a strong, long-term education relationship with the country at both ministerial and sector level.

OPPORTUNITY & CONTEXT

Schools: Nigeria is a rapidly expanding market for UK schools, with Charterhouse, Rugby School, and Wellington College all entering the country within the past two years, signalling strong demand for high‑quality British education and clear opportunities for further UK school partnerships. Nigeria also hosts the region’s largest network of UK international curriculum schools, presenting an opportunity for partnership with edtech and educational content providers. Opportunities for international school groups, including franchising and acquisitions, also exist.

Skills / TVET: Nigeria’s industries face significant skills shortages and gaps. For example: in the creative industries—film, music, fashion, digital media, and gaming, there is strong demand for vocational training in digital production, animation, sound engineering, and creative entrepreneurship. This offers major opportunities for world-class UK skills and training organisations operating in a variety of industrial sectors to provide high quality employer‑aligned training in collaboration with Nigerian counterparts.
