DBT-LED EDUCATION TRADE DELEGATION TO MAURITIUS - CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
Monday, 4 May 2026 - Tuesday, 5 May 2026
Focused education trade delegation Mission
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT), in partnership with the British High Commission in Mauritius, are excited to be leading a focused education trade delegation to Mauritius.
This high-level mission will bring together leading UK independent schools, boarding schools, school groups and education suppliers to explore strategic partnerships, market-entry opportunities and student recruitment pathways in one of the Indian Ocean’s most dynamic and investment-friendly education markets.
The delegation is designed for UK organisations:
- Independent schools and school groups seeking to establish an overseas campus or develop bilateral partnerships in Mauritius
- UK independent and state boarding schools aiming to strengthen recruitment from Mauritius and engage directly with prospective families
- Education suppliers looking to expand into new international markets through collaboration with schools, government, developers and employers.
The visit supports the UK Government’s International Education Strategy (January 2026), with a focus on growing education exports, supporting sustainable transnational education models and building long-term institutional partnerships. It also reinforces the UK’s position as a provider of world-class boarding education to Mauritian and regional families.
Mauritius offers a compelling platform for UK education engagement. The country combines political stability with a high-income, bilingual environment and strong familiarity with UK qualifications, including IGCSEs and A Levels.
A pro-investment education policy — including 100% foreign ownership and attractive tax incentives — alongside the development of Smart Cities with integrated residential communities, creates a supportive framework for new school projects and partnerships.
There is also a clear opportunity for UK-branded boarding provision serving Mauritius and the wider Indian Ocean and East African region.
The two-day programme will include:
- Strategic briefings with DBT and the British High Commission
- Meetings with the Economic Development Board and Ministry of Education representatives
- Engagement with the Private Secondary Education Authority on regulatory pathways
- Smart City developer briefings and site visits
- Roundtable discussions with employers and investors
- Targeted networking and 1-2-1 sessions and a formal reception at the British High Commission
- An invitation-only parent and family reception for Mauritian and expatriate families considering UK boarding education
Participating organisations will leave with clearer market validation, defined regulatory routes, potential partner introductions and a structured post-mission action plan designed to convert engagement into immediate measurable outcomes.

Places are limited and the delegation will be carefully curated to ensure strategic alignment and impact.
Participants are expected to cover international travel, accommodation and subsistence costs, while local programme transport and official events will be coordinated by DBT.
To be considered, organisations should submit an Expression of Interest outlining their international strategy and objectives for Mauritius.
Successful applicants may be featured in a UK delegate brochure shared locally in advance to support targeted match-making.
Deadline for EOI requests is 5pm 14 March 2026
