Traveling to Stockholm

Travel by air – Stockholm Arlanda Airport

If traveling to Stockholm by air internationally, you will arrive at the Stockholm Arlanda Airport. The airport is located 40 kilometres (25 miles) north of Stockholm City.

There are several ways of transfer from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm City Centre and your hotel. We would recommend you take either taxi or the high-speed train service.

High speed train service
The Arlanda Express train takes you directly from the airport to Stockholm Central Station in 18 minutes. The train departs every 15 minutes all day except during the night. From there, there is a 5-15-minute walk to your hotel depending on which you have chosen. There is also a taxi station located at the central station, as well as the choice of public transportation.

The travel time by taxi from Arlanda to Stockholm City is approximately 40 minutes depending on time of day. Please note that taxi fares are not regulated in Sweden, meaning that prices can vary between companies. We would recommend you choose the well-known firm Taxi Stockholm.

Travel by air – Stockholm Bromma Airport 

If traveling by air domestically to Stockholm, you can arrive at Bromma Airport instead of Stockholm Arlanda Airport. Bromma Airport is much smaller but located closer to Stockholm City. From and to Bromma there is a total of 17 destinations, 4 international and 13 domestic. 

There are several ways of transfer from Bromma Airport to Stockholm City Centre and your hotel. We would recommend either the airport coaches or taxi to your destination. 

Airport Coaches
From Bromma Airport you can travel to Stockholm City with the airport coaches, taking approximately 20 minutes. If so you will arrive to Cityterminalen, a bus terminal located right next to Stockholm Central Station. From there it is a 5-15-minute walk to your hotel depending on which you have chosen.

Taxi
The travel time by taxi from Bromma Airport to Stockholm City is approximately 15 minutes depending on the time of day. Please note that taxi fares are not regulated in Sweden, meaning that prices can vary between companies. We would recommend you to choose the well known firm Taxi Stockholm.

Travel by train

Traveling to Stockholm by train could be a good choice. Europe has a vast rail system and you can go by train wherever you need. A lot of the train services are high speed and go both day and night. If you are traveling to Stockholm by train, you will arrive at Stockholm Central Station right in the middle of the city. From there you will have a 5-15-minute walk to your hotel depending on which one you are staying at. There is also a taxi station located at the central station, and you also have the choice of public transportation. 


Travel by boat

If you are traveling from countries around the Baltic Sea, ferries are a good alternative and you will still arrive in central Stockholm. The different routes include crossings from among Germany, Finland, Estonia, Russia, Poland and Latvia. Depending on route and shipping company you can arrive at different ports, either Stadsgårdskajen or Frihamnen, both within 10-15 minutes from Stockholm City Centre by public transportation or taxi.

Stadsgårdskajen
Stadsgårdskajen is located a short walk from the Old Town. From there it is easy to get around. The nearest underground station is Slussen. Taxi to/from the City Center: 10 min.

Frihamnen
Frihamnen is located in the northeastern part of Stockholm. Public transportation takes you to/from the city center in about 15-20 minutes. The nearest subway station is Gärdet, from where it is easy to get around. Taxi to/from the City Center: 15 min.


Traveling to Sweden on a visa?

If you are visiting Sweden and are a citizen of a non-EU country, you may need a visa. A visa is a permit to travel to and stay in a country for a maximum of 90 days. Make sure to do this in time before your visit!


Traveling around Stockholm

The city is relatively compact despite the different islands and walking is often the best way to get around. Otherwise the public transportation (metro, busses and ferries) is safe and efficient and covers everything around the city. In case that you want to take a taxi to your destination we would recommend you to choose the well known firm Taxi Stockholm.

Please observe that taxi fares are not regulated in Sweden, meaning that prices can vary between companies. As a visitor to Sweden you should also be aware of unregistered taxis charging way over the normal price. Therefore we would recommend you always choose the well-known firm Taxi Stockholm
