Peacebuilding in a
COVID-19 era and beyond

GPW20 will examine how peacebuilding has been affected by the COVID-pandemic, and how peacebuilding actors are contributing to shaping the critical reimagining and reprioritizing of our societies. As the Covid-19 pandemic overwhelmed health systems, interrupted supply chains and diverted resources and capacities from other health needs, patterns of inequality and grievances have increased.

Government responses to manage the pandemic, protect livelihoods or rapidly upgrade the health-care systems have in many cases been perceived as inadequate by citizens, particularly in situations where confidence in the state is low. On the frontlines, peacebuilders have responded to COVID-19-related peacebuilding challenges with tactical innovation, by stepping up to address urgent humanitarian needs, and by holding governments accountable.

GPW20 will reflect on how peacebuilding approaches can be adapted and better-integrated into local, national and international responses to the pandemic and post-pandemic era.
