Geneva Peace Week (GPW) is a leading annual forum in the international peacebuilding calendar, and the flagship event of the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform. This year, the thematic focus of the week is "Rebuilding trust after disruption: Pathways to reset international cooperation". Geneva Peace Week 2020 (GPW20) aims to galvanise leadership, build trust and contribute to transforming international cooperation in the wake of COVID-19. While Geneva Peace Week 2020 live sessions may be over, a digital series of over 70 videos, podcasts, and more continues the conversation here on our website. This digital series is free and open to the public.
We thank our more than 280 partnering organizations for their work to bring Geneva Peace Week 2020 to life. A report on the week and the ‘pulse of peacebuilding’ will be available here on our website in mid December.
Geneva Peace Week is a flagship initiative of the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform in collaboration with the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID), the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), and the Platform’s five partners – the Graduate Institute’s Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding (CCDP); the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF); the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP); Interpeace; and the Quaker United Nations Office, Geneva (QUNO). Geneva Peace Week is also supported by Switzerland.
Geneva Solutions is the official media partner of Geneva Peace Week 2020.
The Geneva Peace Week Opening Ceremony will focus on this year's theme: Rebuilding trust after disruption: Pathways to reset international cooperation. GPW20 aims to galvanize leadership, build trust and contribute to transforming international cooperation in the wake of COVID-19. This session formally opens GPW20 and launches the reflection of this exciting week with key-note speeches, discussions, video contributions, and attendee participation and engagement.
The final day of Geneva Peace Week 2020, held on the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, is devoted to innovations, conversations, and solutions in environmental peacebuilding. A combined 45 institutions hosted, curated, and facilitated conversations and sessions both live and in contributions to our pre-recorded Geneva Peace Week 2020 digital series. The day culminates NOW in a closing ceremony, joined by peacebuilders and practitioners from all over the world and cartoonist Hani Abbas, proposed by UNESCO.
