Latin America & the Caribbean

Opportunities for UK companies

Food & Drink

There are significant opportunities for UK Food and Drink companies with a unique offer or a strong brand, in markets such as Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.

The reputation of British products is one of high quality, authenticity and tradition, often sold at high price points in Latin America and the Caribbean markets. Whilst it can be difficult to compete in agricultural produce and goods at the lower-priced end of the sector, British products that have unique features and quality ingredients will see great demand and openness to trying new products. There are significant opportunities for UK companies in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.

Market Detail

Mexico has a rapidly growing population with disposable income demand for premium products. Longer working hours are fuelling demand for higher-value processed and quality food. However new brands need to have a clear Unique Selling Point and to be able to compete with a strong domestic market.

Brazil represents an excellent opportunity for UK food & drink products, with a sizeable population between 15-34 years of age who are familiar with international product.  Products in Brazil need to be registered; others are subject to changing regulations or quotas in the Brazilian market.

Argentina has opened up to UK products considerably in recent years, thanks to an improving trade environment that allows Argentinian companies to import products more easily. Whilst Argentina is a leading food producer in itself, the consumer market is sophisticated and interested in quality UK food and drink products.
