Margaret Bourke

International Trade Adviser - Department for International Trade, North West
Margaret Bourke is an International Trade Adviser with the Department for International Trade (DIT) in the North West. Margaret has over 25 years international business experience. She worked in Japan for 3 years and has extensive experience in Europe, USA and South East Asia. She speaks Japanese, French, German and Irish along with intermediate Spanish and some Portuguese.

Julian Gyngell

Principal - Kepdowrie Chambers, Sydney, Australia

Julian Gyngell is a corporate and commercial lawyer who, for 35 years, has specialised in working with clients in the complementary (and converging) IP-rich, creative industry sectors: 

  • IT / ICT systems and services: procurement, contract negotiation and contract management
  • Telecoms: 4G and 5G product development and licensing
  • e-Commerce / m-commerce: apps and services
  • Multimedia / cross-media / trans-media: content development, publication and syndication
  • Biotech / pharma / life sciences: R&D, licensing-in, licensing-out, marketing and distribution
  • Entertainment: sports, music, artist, athlete and event management.

After graduating in 1984, Julian worked for ICL Computers plc (now Fujitsu) in its Strategy and Technology division based at Putney, London. 


Since moving into private practice in 1986 he has been a partner at top-tier law firms in Sydney, Melbourne, London and Hong Kong. While in London (1990 - 2002) his practice included numerous projects throughout Europe and the Middle East, and a secondment in Hong Kong included projects throughout Asia.


Julian returned to Sydney in 2003 and established Kepdowrie Chambers, in particular developing a strong international practice assisting numerous UK-based companies to set up in Australia.

Jim Thompson

Director - James Thompson Group

James Thompson MBE is a Director of the James Thompson Group P/L established in Australia in 2020. Jim had a 25-year career in the UK Diplomatic Service with postings in Yemen, Denmark, Cyprus, Nigeria and Malaysia before moving to Australia in 1989. He then spent 23 years with the British Consulate-General in Melbourne, working with the UK Department for International Trade and its antecedents. His initial work involved supporting UK businesses in the rail and industrial equipment sectors, but more recently the high technology and smart cities sectors, and during this time he helped many UK companies build their Australian businesses.
