Going Clean - What is the International Building Code (IBC) from the US International Code Council (ICC)?

Tuesday, 28 September 2021 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm BST

Clean energy is emerging as one of the 21st centuries key strategic industries, with global trade in solar and wind related products rivalling that of the trade in oil and gas. International trade in clean energy products and services represents a major opportunity for Global Britain to support our partners across the world in tackling climate change.

Going Clean aims to bring some clarity to how the clean energy sector is governed, looking at the structure of the markets, the intricacies of the supply chains, the geopolitics of trade, and the expert networks that drive deployment.

What will I learn?

In this Going Clean event, Department of International Trade Clean Energy Sector Specialist Dr Richard Hall will be joined by Vice President of Technical Services at the Solar Rating and Certification
Corporation (ICCSRCC) Shawn Martin, to discuss the US International Code Council (ICC) International Building Code (IBC).

In the US, the power to regulate the safety of buildings is done on a state by state basis and can even be delegated to municipalities (cities and towns). For a UK exporter to understand the Building Codes in the US seems like an impossible task, however, getting to grips with the ICC model building codes, which are used as a foundation for codes all across the US, is a great place to start.
