Care Experienced Students – what are we getting right and what do we need to change?

Thursday, 28th October 2021

10:00 am - 12:00 pm

About the event

We now have 7 years of data and are beginning to build a good understanding of the numbers and outcomes for Care Experienced students at college. The good news is that the number of Care Experienced students enrolled at colleges across Scotland increased by 76% in 2019/20.

However, Care Experienced student are still much less likely to successfully complete their course compared to non-care experienced students.

This session aims to explore why this is and what good practice is emerging across the college sector. We will also explore what our Care Experienced students are telling us works for them in supporting retention.

There will be an opportunity to explore how colleges might ‘reframe’ their approach to policy and practice when supporting Care Experienced students and we will discuss the benefits of "being curious" when working with this group.

Who is it for?

Staff who are responsible for supporting Care Experienced students at college, managers of staff supporting Care Experienced students.
