Dan Warren

Director, Advanced Network Research - Samsung Research UK

Dan Warren is Director of Advanced Network Research at Samsung Research UK.  He leads a team of researchers working on cutting-edge mobile telecoms technology innovation, in the fields of 5G, Beyond 5G and the application of Artificial Intelligence.  Dan applies his broad experience in the industry across technical, commercial, strategic and regulatory topics to steer Research towards relevant and commercially viable solutions.  Dan is currently Chair of the Steering Board of the European Commission 5G-PPP, a Board member of 5GIA and a member of a number of External Advisory Boards for academic research projects.

Prior to joining Samsung, Dan held senior roles at Capita, GSMA, Vodafone and Nortel.  Dan is a widely respected authority on Telecoms, having been included in Global Telecoms Business Magazine ‘Top 40 Under 40’ list for three years, and in Capacity Magazine’s ’20 Innovators to Watch’ in 2018. Dan holds a Ph. D. in Applied Mathematics from Brunel University.

Colin Willcock

Chairman - 5G IA Board

Colin is currently the chairman of the board of the 5G Infrastructure Association. He has detailed knowledge and experience of the telecommunications industry having worked directly or indirectly with many of the major players over a 28-year period. The roles have included software developer, technical consultant, technical marketing, standardization and management. In addition to line manager roles, he has participated extensively in standardization activities at ETSI, ITU-T and 3GPP, including instrumental work in creating and developing the TTCN-3 testing language. Colin has also been very active in the European research ecosystem, including leading a number of award winning European projects such as TT-Medal, D-MINT and SEMAFOUR. Colin is currently head of Research Alliances at Nokia.

Jesus Alonso

Deputy Director EC R&I Policies and Strategies - i2cat
Jesus Alonso-Zarate has been an active researcher for the last 16 years in the area of wireless communications for the Internet of Things (IoT), with particular focus on 5G technologies. He has published more than 160 technical papers in international conferences and peer-reviewed journals. He has participated in more than 40 R&D projects, being principal investigator in many of them. In 2019, he received the Young Research Award by the Spanish Royal Academy of Engineering for his contributions to telecom engineering in the area of IoT and 5G. Since early 2021, he has joined i2CAT to focus his activity on defining EC Research and Innovation Policies and Strategies.

Dimitra Simeonidou

Full Professor - University of Bristol

Dimitra is a Full Professor at the University of Bristol, the Co-Director of the Bristol Digital Futures Institute and the Director of Smart Internet Lab. Her research is focusing in the fields of high performance networks, programmable networks, wireless-optical convergence, 5G/6G and smart city infrastructures. She is increasingly working with Social Sciences on topics of digital transformation for society and businesses. Dimitra has been the Technical Architect and the CTO of the smart city project Bristol Is Open. She is currently leading the Bristol City/Region 5G urban pilots.

She is the author and co-author of over 600 publications, numerous patents and several major contributions to standards.

She has been co-founder of two spin-out companies, the latest being the University of Bristol VC funded spin-out Zeetta Networks, http://www.zeetta.com, delivering SDN solutions for enterprise and emergency networks.

Scott Bailey

Deputy Director, Telecoms Diversification - Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS)
Scott Bailey is Deputy Director, Telecoms Diversification at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). Previously, Scott was the Head of Mobile Infrastructure and 5G Policy in DCMS. Before joining DCMS, Scott worked for three and half years in the Cabinet Office, as well as in the Department for Communities and Local Government, and the Department for Energy and Climate Change.

Diego R. Lopez

Senior Technology Expert - Telefonica

Dr Diego R. Lopez joined Telefonica I+D in 2011 as a Senior Technology Expert, and is currently in charge of the Technology Exploration activities within the GCTIO Unit. Before joining Telefónica he spent some years in the academic sector, dedicated to research on network services, and was appointed member of the High-Level Expert Group on Scientific Data Infrastructures by the European Commission.

Diego is currently focused on applied research on network infrastructures, with a special emphasis on virtualization, data-driven management, new architectures, and security. Diego chairs the ETSI ISG on Permissioned Distributed Ledgers and the Network Operator Council ETSI ISG on Network Function Virtualization.

Apart from this, Diego is a more than acceptable Iberian ham carver, and extremely fond of seeking and enjoying comics, and good discussions on any (in)appropriate matter.

Johannes Springer

Lead 5G Automotive Program - Deutsche Telekom AG / T-Systems International GmbH

Johannes Springer is responsible for the 5G Automotive Program at Deutsche Telekom.

Johannes studied Mechanical and Production Engineering at Berlin Technical University. After his doctorate in 1992 he was in charge at Aachen University of Technology (RWTH) as head of department in the Institute of Ergonomics and Industrial Engineering. In 1998 he joined Deutsche Telekom Group in various management positions. From 2004 to 2010 he worked as CTO/COO for Toll Collect, the GNSS and mobile networks based electronic tolling operator for trucks in Germany. From 2011 to 2016 he was Vice President Technology and Solution Design in Connected Car Business Unit in T-Systems.

Johannes is active in various organizations, specifically in 5GAA (5G Automotive Association) he works in the Working Groups “Use Cases”, “Business Models”, and “Public and regulatory Affairs”, and since 2018, he is the Director General of the 5GAA.

Craig Sharp

Horizon Europe UK National Contact Point for Digital, based in - Innovate UK

Craig Sharp is the Horizon Europe UK National Contact Point for Digital, based in Innovate UK, and provides advice and support to UK organisations looking to apply to Horizon Europe.

Originally from a technical background (optoelectronics, manufacturing, project management), his previous roles include National Contact Point (Materials & Manufacturing) through Horizon 2020 and FP7, national collaborative R&D programme management, Eureka, secondments to UK Government business support programmes , and monitoring and evaluation of collaborative R&D projects.
