The Royal Society of Sculptors (RSS) hosted a members-only competition inviting artists to design a sculpture under the theme ‘See things differently.’ Nicola Anthony MRSS was selected for the Live Sculpture Commission and during the pre-programme dates, she created a new work at the UK Pavilion’s Inspiration Gallery over 10 days, offering visitors a front row seat to the creative process.
During the programme week, the completed sculpture design was announced at a VIP reception. It is now being displayed as a must-see piece for the public to enjoy throughout the six months of the Expo.
see things differently, 2021

This artwork speaks of the urgency of taking action to tackle the climate crisis as a global collective, and the delicate tipping point of the current moment.
The ‘sands of time’ within it pulsed in relation to the live global dialogue on hashtag #COP26, and now loop this 14 day discussion in perpetuity. Each light symbolises an individual's voice. The artwork shows the quantity of tweets through brightness, and AI analysis enables the sculpture to represent sentiment with colour.
The outer shell is made of found objects including ghost nets gathered from Dubai and UK beaches, which have been repurposed into art.
