Innovating for a shared future

Inspired by one of Stephen Hawking’s final projects, 'Breakthrough Message', the UK Pavilion invites you to consider what message we would communicate to express ourselves as a planet should we one day encounter other advanced civilisations in space.

You will enter the UK Pavilion and goes through the maze of aspiration, a series of illuminating displays. The journey that takes you through the story of how the UK’s role in AI and Space are impacting humanity with augmented reality experiences and enriched digital experiences. It will also explore wider innovations and collaborations as well as show look at how some of our sponsors address our theme 'we are innovating for a shared future'.

Opportunity

From the Latin Ob (towards) and Portus (a port). A seafaring term – inscribing in the language of an ancient trading nation, whose seaports are by 2020 set to be supplemented with the UK's first commercial Spaceport by 2021.

Maze of aspiration

Humanity is facing challenges in every aspect of our being. Technology, creativity and innovation is rapidly showing us solutions that can solve these real global challenges. Once these solutions are unlocked it will be for the benefit of communities across the world. The UK is leading contributions in these areas to provide future, sustainable solutions.

Choral Space

Just before you enter this immersive space you will get to donate a word to our Pavilion. As you step into the Choral Space you will be cocooned in a soundscape that takes you on a journey of AI, and Space and innovation reflecting on the UK’s diverse culture.
