The UK, Australia and New Zealand have a shared history, language and are the closest of allies working together to tackle global problems. Since its withdrawal from the European Union, the UK has been able to negotiate the most advanced, gold-standard Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). The first agreement to be negotiated from scratch was with Australia, and a New Zealand FTA is currently under negotiation.
With total trade in 2020 between the UK and Australia equalling £13.9 billion and £2.3 billion between the UK and New Zealand, there are great opportunities for UK companies in the region both now and into the future.
Join the Department for International Trade's Joanne Freeman, Director for Trade (ANZ) and Consul General for Queensland and the Northern Territory, as she explores the relationships between the three countries, provides a summary of the recent FTAs, offers insights into both markets and shares hints and tips for doing business Down Under. Joanne Freeman 
Joanne Freeman is the Director of Trade for Australia and New Zealand and the Consul General for Queensland and the Northern Territory, at the UK Government's Department for International Trade.
Most recently, Jo worked as the Deputy Consul General in Sydney and has previously worked for DIT in various roles overseas including India and Canada. Before coming to Australia in October 2016, Jo was DIT's Deputy Regional Director for London. In this role she was responsible for managing stakeholder relationships across the London region and helping London companies explore export opportunities overseas.
Kirsty Whitford
Kirsty Whitford is based in Melbourne, Australia and joined the DIT team in 2020.
Kirsty leads the Technology and Smart Cities trade team for Australia and New Zealand, liaising with key private sector stakeholders and government departments to highlight the capability of UK technology companies and helping UK companies to expand in market. Kirsty recently returned to Australia from the UK, where she worked for many years as the Member Engagement and Marketing Lead for the Australia-United Kingdom Chamber of Commerce, helping to further bilateral trade engagement between both countries.
