Technical Visit 1: Singapore Rail Testing Centre
Attendees had the opportunity to ride the High-Speed Test Track and witness train testing at Southeast Asia's first railway testing facility. They also discovered the environmental sustainability initiatives and energy-efficient features that have earned the facility its BCA Green Mark Platinum certification. Sustainable commuting was further encouraged through bicycle parking facilities and sheltered linkways connecting the buildings.
Technical Visit 2: East Coast Integrated Depot
Attendees had the chance to visit the world's first 4-in-1 depot, featuring 3 train depots stacked on top of one another and an adjacent bus depot. Serving East-West Line, Thomson-East Coast Line and Downtown Line, they experienced its innovative space-saving design and impressive stabling capacity of 220 trains. They also visited the bus depot, which houses up to 670 buses. With sustainability being a key focus of its design, the tour showcased some of its green features too, such as a 3D façade to allow for natural ventilation and lighting, green roof to help in lowering the temperature, and solar panels to reduce power consumption.
Technical Visit 3: Sengkang West Bus Depot
Attendees visited Singapore’s first multi-storey bus depot, built to serve both electric and diesel hybrid buses.
In line with our target to have a 100% cleaner energy public bus fleet by 2040, the depot is also the first to come with large scale, high-powered plug-in chargers. With land use intensification, the staff quarters was designed and built as an adjoining building, providing accommodation to our land transport workers.
Attendees were among the first to view the facilities and equipment to support the operations and maintenance of electric buses, try their hands on the high-powered chargers, and learn about the sustainability initiatives and energy-efficient features that have earned the facility its BCA’s Green Mark Platinum certification.
Technical Visit 4: Modular Automation in the Electric Vehicle Industry
During this visit, attendees discovered how a traditionally labour-intensive industry can be revolutionised through robotics and automation. They were immersed in a 3D VR experience and witnessed a revolutionary manufacturing process that is highly automated and modular.They also had the opportuinity to experience the full capabilities and performance of an electric vehicle on the skytrack built at the roof of the manufacturing facility.
Technical Visit 5: Inclusive Public Transport Hub
Attendees didn't miss out the incredible opportunity to learn about the various inclusivity features and initiatives introduced at the Woodlands Integrated Transport Hub.
In this inclusivity tour, they discovered how LTA has created a more caring and inclusive public transport experience for commuters with various disabilities and medical conditions. This included the wayfinding murals for commuters with dementia, Hearing Enhancement System for deaf or hard-of-hearing commuters, priority queue zones for commuters with mobility challenges, as well as the Caring SG Commuters Movement and how a culture of care can be built in the community and nation at large.
Attendees also had the chance to interact with representatives from LTA and the public transport operators, learning about their experiences in implementing these initiatives.
Technical Visit 6: Art in Transit
Attendees joined an eye-opening tour of Singapore's largest public art showcase, featuring captivating installations along the Thomson-East Coast Line. From murals to sculptures, the Art in Transit programme brought the creativity of local artists to unexpected places. This tour offered a rare chance to discover the beauty, history, and thought-provoking messages behind each piece. Perfect for art lovers and curious minds alike, this journey changed the way participants experienced Singapore's public spaces.
