Great fashion eventFashion is Great

For Barbour, which makes the iconic waxed jacket, the key message is repairing, re-waxing and giving a new life to old garments. For the Scottish heritage cashmere brand Johnstons of Elgin the use of biodegradable fibres and achieving full traceability of cashmere are the key objectives by 2024.  For the high-street apparel label Reiss, the newly launched corporate sustainability mission involves implementing a “Second life” programme by 2025 and using 100% sustainable fabrics by 2030.

The Sustainable Markets Initiative

During the G20 Summit in Rome, the British Ambassador’s Residence hosted a presentation event to HRH the Prince of Wales of the digital product ID created by the Sustainable Markets Initiative’s Fashion Task Force. This product code, embedded into the label, is a virtual certificate that records each item’s history, with information on how it was designed, manufactured and transported to the shops. It will provided consumers with the sustainability credentials of their clothing, allowing people to make smarter choices.

The SMI Fashion Task Force groups the CEOs of some of the world’s leading fashion companies. Among the task force members who presented the ID code to HRH the Prince of Wales were the CEOs of Johnstons of Elgin and Mulberry. An event that represented an important milestone along the path of sustainable fashion.
