Online PD Monitoring on Rotating Machines

June 29, 2022 | 15:00 hrs - 16:30 hrs (IST)

The performance and reliability of rotating electrical machines are critical for power generation and running critical processes in industrial applications. However, performance and reliability can be compromised over time due to the thermal, electrical, ambient, and mechanical stresses motors and generators are continuously subjected to when in operation.

Partial discharge (PD) activity is an indication of weak spots in the insulation that can cause failure and damage to motors and generators and can be continuously monitored over time, either on a temporary or permanent basis, to efficiently plan maintenance and prevent failure.

What you will learn?

  • Become familiar with the basic principles of partial discharge monitoring on electrical rotating machines
  • Learn to set up and measure partial discharges using our portable PD monitoring system
  • Get a first glance on how to interpret the results

Webinar Agenda:

  • Introduction to partial discharge (PD)
  • Advantages of online monitoring over offline testing
  • How PD can be monitored online?
  • How to deal with online disturbances and to distinguish between different PD sources?
  • Basic interpretation of a few PD defects on electrical rotating machines
  • Practical part: PD monitoring with the MONTESTO 200
