Presentation Information

For oral presenters:

  • Slides should be in 16:9 ratio, which is widescreen. (We apologise for previous replies that indicated otherwise.)

A reminder of the oral presentation instructions:

  • Oral presenters should speak for an absolute maximum of 8 minutes, followed by 2 minutes for questions. However, if you would like to speak for less time and allow more time for questions (e.g. 6-7 minutes presenting, followed by 3-4 minutes for questions), then please do so. Presentations will be delivered via PowerPoint; please save your presentation as .ppt, .pptx or pdf files.
  • Before your presentation: Please upload your presentation at least one session before you are due to give your presentation. Please note, if you are presenting in the 1st session, please arrive earlier to upload your slides before the conference starts. If this is not possible, please email a copy of your slides in advance to the chair of your session.
  • During your presentation: Please be prepared to come forward to the podium during your session, and when the previous presenter is answering questions, please ensure you are close to the podium and ready to present. Locate your presentation on the computer and please try to keep to time, as scheduling is strict and we do not want to end any talks prematurely. Speak into the microphone to address the audience clearly. Once you have finished presenting, including questions and/or discussion, please close your slides and pass the microphone to the next presenter.

For poster presenters:

  • Please remember to send us your poster to bfdg2023.annualmeeting@gmail.com by April 6th, 5 pm.
  • Please send us a .pdf of your poster, and name it as follows: Session#_Display#_LastName, for example “Session1_Display3_Smith.pdf”. You can find your session and unit numbers in the conference programme.
  • For best visibility, please avoid very small text – we suggest no smaller than size 12.
  • A template of the powerpoint file for poster presentations is avialable to download here

A reminder of the poster instructions:

  • Posters will be shown on large digital poster displays (43”). Presenters will be invited to give a 3-minute pitch of their poster at a specified time, and posters will be displayed on a loop at other times. Specifically, poster sessions will work as follows:
  • During each of the three poster sessions, a set of (+/-) four posters will be presented on each of the five digital display units. Please look up your Poster Session and Unit Number on the Poster Schedule.
  • During your Poster Session, please be present at your designated Display Unit, ready to present your 3-minute summary pitch along with the other presenters. We trust that you self-organise these sessions, i.e., to arrive on time, start when all presenters are there, stick to the time limit, and refrain from taking audience questions during the pitches. After the pitches, the posters can be viewed freely during the remainder of the Session, and there is plenty of time for Q&A.
  • To prepare for these poster sessions, please send your poster to bfdg2023.annualmeeting@gmail.com by April 6th, 5 pm.
  • Formatting specifications: Please prepare a .pdf file, or .jpeg file, in RGB colour. No bleed, No crops. 150dpi is recommended. Please avoid tiny text! The file should be 42cm tall x 23.6cm wide (see attached template). We will then integrate your pdfs into a collective Powerpoint presentation to be shown on the digital displays.
  • Please note that all posters have to be in portrait mode.
  • You can include QR codes on your poster to link to a variety of resources associated with your work, for example pre-registration, materials and data, pre-print, and audio/video poster presentations, which you can upload for example on Youtube or the Open Science Framework.
  • Online participants: If you are unable to attend and present your poster in person at the Leeds Conference, please send us your poster as described above. In addition, please ensure to embed contact information, as well as a QR code that links to a pre-recorded audio/video poster pitch, hosted for example on Youtube or the Open Science Framework. Your poster will be displayed on the units, but there will be no “live” interaction between yourself and the audience.
  • In addition, all presenters can upload their posters at https://www.eposters.net – please note that this is separate from BFDG and does not replace sending your poster .pdf to the organising team in preparation for your poster presentation.
  • Important: There will be a Best Poster Award at the end of the conference, with a small panel assessing posters during the conference. If you would NOT LIKE to be included in the poster competition, please let us know when you send us your poster, otherwise you will be automatically considered for the award.

If you have any questions, please direct them to bfdg2023.annualmeeting@gmail.com.
