This year, the Department for Business and Trade (formerly DIT & BEIS) will be returning to exhibit at MWC Barcelona, taking place between 27 February – 2 March 2023, helping to promote the UK’s best technology companies at the event through facilitating meetings, networking opportunities and our UK pavilion.

“Beyond 5G Collaboration Opportunities" Networking Reception Hosted by the UK Space Agency (UKSA) & European Space Agency: 16:30 – 17:30

The event will open with brief talks from representatives from the Department for Business and Trade, the European Space Agency, the UK Space Agency and Industry. This will be followed by an open networking session, where we encourage participants to engage in conversations around 5G/6G opportunities and potential collaborations. Registration required.

• "UK Digital Infrastructure" Networking Reception– Hosted by the UK's Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) : 14:00 – 15:00

Hear about UK Government developments and investments in digital infrastructure including insights from the £250m Open Networks Programme, our Digital Connectivity Infrastructure Accelerator programme and our forthcoming Wireless Infrastructure Strategy.

There will also be introductions to UK Government funded projects, UK Telecoms Innovation Network and SmartRAN Open Network Interoperability Centre (SONIC).

Urban XR

Urban XR are bringing their acclaimed British Telecom Smart City Augmented Reality (AR) Showcase to Mobile World Congress. The demo showcases cutting edge Visual Positioning Technology (VPS) to deliver this AR experience at MWC. In combination with VPS, the activation demonstrates how the internet of things can be used to revolutionise how our towns and cities can function to deliver sustainable outcomes. Transport data, underground farm monitoring, security and building occupancy information are just a few of the data sets brought to life overlayed onto a highly detailed scale AR model of central London.

GLOBAL ENTREPRENEUR PROGRAMME (GEP) 

Global Entrepreneur Programme (GEP) is the The Department for Business and Trade’s flagship programme that enables ambitious, internationally mobile entrepreneurs and their innovation-rich companies to scale and grow from a UK global HQ.

GEP companies receive bespoke support from experienced entrepreneurs and investors called 'dealmakers.' They act as advisers and mentors and have abundant networks both in the UK and overseas, providing GEP’s alumni with introductions to key connections in the ecosystem.

Mike Jackson

Cleantech, HealthTech and Tech

Mike is an Entrepreneur who built and sold his business in London and then moved to Bristol to found his own tech incubator and became an active local investor and mentor. In 2018 he took on a national role as Entrepreneur Success Director at Government supported Tech Nation responsible for rolling out a UK wide network of support for ambitious UK tech entrepreneurs through local activity and national growth stage and sector specific programmes. Having completed his mission, he left Tech Nation in April 2021 to pursue new challenges and has recently taken on the role of Dealmaker for the Global Entrepreneur Programme. Although having worked with tech companies across all sectors and technologies, Mike has knowledge of the Healthtech market in the UK.
    

Digital Exporting Programme - Building great partnerships for the future

The UK Government's Digital Exporting Programme provides tailored trade and investment advice to international and UK companies on digital commerce. Led by a group of dedicated professionals and industry experts, the team works with international organisations to create mutually beneficial initiatives that help businesses benefit from the opportunities that digital trade offers.

The Department for Business and Trade and the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) has been working closely with the GSMA to accelerate mobile connectivity and reach. After two successful events at MWC Barcelona 2022 and MWC Africa 2022 and the launch of two whitepapers, we are building a community of stakeholders to drive cooperation and address the remaining digital divide.
