23rd Annual RIMS Conference: 31 May - 2 June 2018, Amsterdam

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a beautiful and truly iconic city. It is the capital of the Netherlands and most populous municipality of the country. Old canals lined with gorgeous townhouses, buzzy cafés, splendid restaurants, stylish boutiques and treasure-packed museums (Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum, ...), a hyper-active creative community, Amsterdam is a good-time city.  Just know that Amsterdammers take riding their bike very seriously. So beware!

Getting there

By plane

Schiphol is the main airport in Amsterdam (www.schiphol.nl), situated about 20km southwest of the city centre. It's easy to reach the city from Schiphol by train (trains run to Amsterdam Centraal Station 24 hours a day), bus (bus 197/Amsterdam Airport Express) or taxi (taxi stand is just outside the outside the arrivals hall door and will cost you between 40 and 60 euro).

By car

The city can be reached by car, please know parking is scarce and rather expensive

Getting around

The tram (fast and frequent) is a great way to cover the city. Or hire a bike? A really fun way to get around. As (Central) Amsterdam is compact, covering the city by foot is very easy. The taxi is rather expensive and not very speedy given traffic jams and Amsterdams' maze of streets.

Weather

Amsterdam is fine all year round, Spring time is a really nice time to visit the city (warm and clear), an umbrella might come in useful as there is always the possibility of rain.
