Prof. Dr Vincent Bours, University Hospital of Liège & University of Liège - Liège, Belgium
Vincent Bours is Director of the Department of Medical Genetics at the CHU de Liège (University Hospital of Liège). He is an ordinary professor at the University of Liège and Vice-Chairman of the Management Committee of the National Fund for Rare Diseases and Orphan Medicinal Products.
He completed his education in hematology and oncology at the University Hospital of Liège and did research work between 1989 and 1992 at the National Institute of Health in the United States. His main clinical and research interest is in cancer genetics and familial cancer syndromes.
Prof. Dr Michel Delforge, University Hospital Leuven & Catholic University of Leuven - Leuven, Belgium
Michel Delforge is Professor of Medicine in the Department of Hematology at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. He trained in Leuven and at the University of Minnesota, USA, and obtained a doctoral degree in biomedical sciences. Dr Delforge is currently chairman of the Cancer Institute Leuven and clinical head of the Department of Hematology where he directs the plasma cell dyscrasia unit.
He is also a senior clinical investigator, chairman of the Belgian Myeloma Working Party, and active member of the Intergroupe Francophone du Myélome, HOVON (Hemato-Oncology Foundation for Adults in the Netherlands), and the International Myeloma Working Group. He holds the Luc Fraiture Chair in Hematology at the University of Leuven, and has authored or co-authored more than 100 manuscripts and several book chapters in the field of hematology.
Prof. Dr Cedric Hermans, Saint-Luc University Hospital & Catholic University of Louvain - Brussels, Belgium
Cedric Hermans currently heads the Division of Haematology, the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Unit as well as the Hemophilia Center of the Saint-Luc University Hospital in Brussels, Belgium. He was appointed Associate Professor at the Medical School of the Catholic University of Louvain in 2003, Full Professor in 2012 and Vice-Dean in 2015.
Professor Hermans has (co)-authored more than 215 original articles in international journals and is a member of several scientific societies and international advisory boards and collaborative research projects. He is past-president of EAHAD, member of the Board of Directors of the World Federation of Haemophilia and the Editor-in-Chief of the Haemophilia Journal.
His main research interests lie in the area of haemostasis and thrombosis, especially clinical studies on the treatment modalities and the wide spectrum of complications of haemophilia in both developed and developing countries, as well as new anticoagulants and the management of thrombosis.
Prof. Dr Mohamad Mohty, Hospital Saint-Antoine & University Pierre & Marie Curie - Paris, France
Mohamad Mohty is full Professor of Hematology and head of the Hematology and cellular therapy Department at the Saint-Antoine Hospital and Sorbonne University (Paris, France). Professor Mohty obtained his medical degree from the University of Montpellier, France, and
his PhD from the University of Marseille, France. He also undertook post-doctoral work at the Hematology Department, Imperial College, Hammersmith Hospital, London, UK.
Professor Mohty is also head of a translational research team (INSERM team N°7) at the Saint-Antoine Research centre in Paris and his research is focused on the pathophysiology and immunobiology of normal and pathological antigen-presenting cells, especially the impact of novel immunomodulatory agents such as proteasome inhibitors, IMiDs and hypomethylating agents.
He has a special clinical focus on the development of reduced-toxicity conditioning regimens, immunotherapy and different aspects of therapy of acute leukemia and multiple myeloma.
Professor Mohty is past-president of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), and the current chairman of the Acute Leukemia Working Party of EBMT. He is also the founder and chairman of the “International Academy for Clinical Hematology (IACH; http://clinical-hematology.org/). He serves on the board of the EBMT, and the “Intergroupe Francophone du Myelome” (IFM). He is a member of the American Society of Hematology, American Society for Clinical Oncology, American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation, European Hematology Association, and EBMT.
Professor Mohty has published more than 550 peer-reviewed articles (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=MOHTY+M) in the field of stem cell transplantation, leukemia and myeloma, in different hematology and immunology journals. He also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Bone Marrow Transplantation, as Associate Editor for Leukemia, European Journal of Haematology and Blood Cancer Journal, as member of the editorial board of Haematologica, and as a regular reviewer in different immunology, hematology, and cancer journals such as the New Engl. J Med, Blood, J Clin Oncol, The Lancet, Lancet Oncology, Lancet Haematology, Nature Reviews, etc.
Dr Irene Motta, University of Milan - Milan, Italy
Irene Motta is assistant professor at the Department of Clinical Sciences and Community Health at the University of Milan. She has clinical activities at the General Medicine and Rare Diseases Unit of the “Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico” Foundation in Milan. The Foundation is a scientific Institute for Research, Hospitalization and Health Care (IRCCS).
She is regularly invited as speaker at national and international educational events.
Dr Motta is a member of the Italian Society of Internal Medicine (SIMI) and the Italian Society of Thalassemia and Hemoglobinopathies (SITE) and acts as reviewer for the American Journal of Hematology as well as the journal on Internal and Emergency Medicine.
Dr François Provôt, Hôpital Claude Huriez & Lille University Hospital - Lille, France
François Provôt is a nephrologist at the Lille University center since 1999. He works in the kidney transplant and dialysis/apheresis department. He is the head of the TMA competence center in the North of France and works closely with Pr Paul Coppo (TMA national reference center in Paris).
