Prof. Ann Janssens is Head of Clinics in the Department of Hematology at Leuven University Hospital, Leuven, Belgium. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Ghent, before specializing there in hematology. In vitro apoptosis and clonal evolution in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) was the title of her doctoral thesis.

Prof. Janssens has a special interest in CLL and other indolent lymphomas and also in immune thrombocytopenias (ITP). She acts as a co-ordinator for Phase I–IV clinical studies relating to CLL-low grade lymphomas and ITP. She has published in several peer-reviewed journals. She is a member of the editorial board of The Belgian Journal of Hematology. Since 2019 she is the President of the Belgian Hematological Society.

Dr. Helena Devos is a clinical biologist working in the laboratory of the Sint Jan Hospital in Brugge. She leads the molecular hematology department and focusses on implementation of the most novel molecular techniques, such as massive parallel sequencing and optical genome mapping, in the routine diagnostic workup of hematological patients. Furthermore dr. Devos is medical director of the apheresis collection facility, where stem cell collections and photopheresis treatments  are performed . She is treasurer and liaison clinical biologists of the BHS since 2019. In 2020 she became president of the Wetenschappelijk Fonds Hematologie v.z.w. Furthermore dr. Devos is an active member of the Commitee for Personalized Medicine.  

I am currently Professor of Hematology and Medicine and Chair of the Department of Hematology and Internal medicine at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire UCL Namur, Yvoir, Belgium.

I have extensive experience in clinical and laboratory research in lymphoma, and a particular interest in Holdgkin lymphoma and late toxicities of treatments. 

I have personally conducted or been involved in more than 50 clinical studies in the field of lymphoma, either early phase clinical trials or larger-scale studies, national or international, such as the large-scale clinical trial H10 (André et al. JCO 2017) on Hodgkin lymphoma. I am currently involved as principal investigator or steering committee member in several clinical trials evaluating new agents or innovative therapeutic strategies in lymphoma.

I have assumed leadership positions in lymphoma related research projects: since 2012, I have been serving as Hodgkin committee Chairperson of the international cooperative group LYSA (The Lymphoma Study association), which is, currently, conducting over 40 clinical and translational studies, from phase I/II trials to phase III studies, some of them performed in partnership with industrial entities and used for registration of new agents.

 I have served for 6 years as member of the board of the Belgian Hematology Society and I serve since 3 years as Vice-President of this Society.

Finally, I have also undertaken over the years multiple institutional and scientific responsibilities in CHU UCL Namur, Belgium (Head of Internal Medicine department) and the University Catholic de Louvain and Université de Namur.

Dr. Dimitri Breems is currently working as a clinical hematologist at the department of hematology of the Hospital Network Antwerp (ZNA and consultant at the University Hospital of Antwerp. After studying medicine at the Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands, he proceeded with a PhD study entitled “Assessment and improvement of gene transfer into human hematopoietic stem cells” at the institute of hematology of the same university. He further specialized in internal medicine and hematology and worked as a clinical hematologist at the department of hematology of the Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam before moving to Antwerp in 2006. His main research interests are novel treatments and cytogenetic prognostic factors in acute myeloid leukemia. Dr. Breems is board member of the Belgian Hematology Society (BHS) since 2016 and chair of the Acute Leukemia Committee of the BHS. He is also member of the international Steering Committee of the Leukemia working group of the Dutch-Belgian Hemato-Oncology Cooperative Group (HOVON).

Dr Servais is a doctor in clinical hematology at the University Hospital of Liège. In addition, she is also a post-doctoral researcher of the Belgian Foundation against Cancer. She graduated from the University of Liège as Doctor in Medicine, with the highest possible grade, in 2009, and as Doctor in Biomedical Science in 2014, also from the University of Liège. She continued her studies and obtained two complementary masters. From the University of Liège, she obtained her complementary master in internal medicine in 2015 and her complementary master in hematology in 2016. Both with the highest possible grade. 

She also plays an active part in scientific society. For instance, she is member of the Board of the Belgian Hematological Society, member of the French Society for Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, member of the Antibiotics Management Group of the University Hospital of Liège, and is a reviewer for scientific papers such as “Leukemia Lymphoma” and “Nature Scientific Reports”.  

Lastly, she has won several awards, including Award of the best student researcher of the Medicine faculty (Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium), “Prix Promouvoir la Recherche” (ULiège), PACE award (Belgian Hematological Society) and the “Oral Presentation Award” at the 28th and 30th General Annual Meeting of the Belgian Hematological Society. 

Koen Theunissen graduated as a Physician at the KU Leuven in 1994, and continued his training in Internal Medicine, and further on in Hematology in Leuven and Minneapolis. He joined the Stem Cell Institute in Minnesota in 1998 and received a laboratory training in hematopoietic stem cell biology under the  guidance of Prof C Verfaillie. He joined the Hematology staff of the UZ Leuven as an associate head of Clinic from 2002 to 2007, with a special interest in apheresis, cell therapy, and transplantation. In 2007 he joined the Hematology staff of the Jessa Hospital in Hasselt and the LOC ( Limburgs Oncologisch Centrum), and became Head of Department in 2011. Besides the clinical work, he has been involved in JAICE as a clinical and collection inspector, and has served on the Standards review committee on several rounds. He is an active member of several professional societies, and is on the editorial board of the Belgian Hematological Journal. He joined the BHS board in 2019, where he serves as Webmaster and educational councilor. He authored and co authored several p reviewed papers. Besides Intensive Hematological Treatments and cellular therapies, his professional interests are focused on quality initiatives and clinical research.

Carlijn Brekelmans is part of the Genetic Tumour Predisposition (GeTuP) group of the Centre for Human Genetics in UZ Leuven, headed by Prof. Dr. H. Brems. This group focusses on the diagnostics of germline cancer predisposition, but also has a specialty in mosaicism of overgrowth syndromes.

Carlijn obtained master’s degrees in medical biology and education from the Radboud University in Nijmegen (NL). Subsequently she completed a PhD at the Centre for Human Genetics in Leuven examining NF1-related pseudarthrosis under supervision of Prof. Dr. E. Legius. She has been working as a staff member in the GeTuP group for 3 years.

Jennifer R. Brown, MD, PhD is the Director of the CLL Center of the Division of Hematologic Malignancies at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Brown completed a B.S. and M.S. simultaneously in molecular biophysics and biochemistry (MB&B) at Yale, graduating summa cum laude with distinction. She proceeded to Harvard Medical School where she received her MD and PhD in molecular genetics in 1998 and was awarded the James Tolbert Shipley Prize. She then served as an intern and resident in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital followed by fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at DFCI. Dr. Brown joined the faculty of DFCI and Harvard Medical School in 2004, where she has an active clinical-translational research program in CLL.  

Her interests include the development of novel targeted therapeutics for CLL, as well as CLL genomics. She has been instrumental in the clinical development of idelalisib and ibrutinib, leading to their regulatory approvals in CLL. Her genomics work has characterized the somatic mutation profile of CLL, and she is now particularly interested in the implementation of genomic technology in the clinic. She also has a longstanding research interest in the inherited predisposition to CLL. To date she has published about 250 papers in the scientific literature, predominantly in CLL. In 2014 she was the recipient of two awards from DFCI, the Clinical Innovation Award, as well as the George Canellos Award. She is a member of the International Workshop on CLL (iwCLL) and enjoys a worldwide reputation as a CLL expert. 

Franky Buyle is a clinical pharmacist at the Ghent University Hospital, where he helps shape the antibiotics policy in his capacity as secretary of the antibiotics policy working group. In 2015, he obtained his PhD at the University of Ghent. His PhD dealt with antimicrobial stewardship programs.

Franky Buyle is also an active member of scientific associations and commissions, including the working group clinical medicine of the BAPCOC (Belgian Antibiotic Policy Coordination Committee).

Annemarie Coolbrandt is a clinical nurse specialist in oncology at the University Hospitals Leuven, Belgium. Her main clinical practice and research domains are: self-management support of oncological patients, supportive care and management of side effects of oncological treatments, implementation of PROMs in oncology and transmural care and collaboration in function of oncological patients and their families. Her doctoral project (2011-2016) focused on developing and evaluating a patient-centered nursing intervention to alleviate symptom burden during chemotherapy. She implemented home hospitalisation for trastuzumab in breast cancer as part of a FOD pilot project (2018-2020). 

Ann De Becker obtained her medical degree from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and is currently a haematologist a UZ Brussel. There she focuses on treatment of acute leukemias, stem cell transplantation and apheresis. She is also actively involved in stem cell research in the Stem Cell Laboratory of UZ Brussel-VUB.   She is a member of national and international Hematology associations and participates in the BHS acute leukemia, stem cell transplantation and myelodysplastic syndrome committees. 

Barbara De Moerloose is pediatric hematologist-oncologist and head of the pediatric hemato-oncology department in the Ghent University Hospital. She is also senior lecturer at the Ghent University and member of several international and national hematological and oncological organizations such as vice-chair of the Belgian Society of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.  She has special expertise in leukemia, myelodysplasia and bone marrow failure in children and is national coordinator of several academic clinical trials in the field of pediatric leukemia and myelodysplasia, as well as principal investigator of early phase clinical trials in these diseases. Because of her involvement in international working groups and consortia and the expertise in early-phase clinical trials, her department participated to the ELIANA pivotal trial, which marked the beginning of CART treatment in Ghent. Ever since, she has built up a vast experience in Belgium in the treatment of pediatric ALL patients with CART. 

Johan De Munter graduated as a nurse in 2001 and worked for several years on an oncology and haematology ward. In 2006 he moved to a private hospital that wanted to focus on a completely new role in cancer nursing in Belgium. In 2010 he transferred to the University Hospital Ghent, where he continues to work as a nurse consultant in the haematology/stem cell transplant unit. Some time ago he continued his career pathway as an assistant nurse manager of the cancer centre at the university hospital. His professional interests include patient & nurse education, supportive care needs, survivorship & palliative care, and Adolescent and Young Adults (AYA) cancer care. He is involved in the Flemish Society for Radiology and Oncology Nurses, a position in the Belgian Haematology Society’s nurses committee, and has is member of the SIOPE (European Society for Paediatric Oncology) AYA Committee . He is a board member of the Majin home in Ghent, which supports people with cancer and their loved ones. Over a decade he was member EONS (European Oncology Nursing Society) advocacy wg, was chair of EONS communication WG and is currently EONS president elect.

Daan Dierickx obtained his medical degree at the KU Leuven. In 2006 he finalized his specialization as hematologist. Currently he is working as a staff member in the Department of Hematology at the University Hospitals Leuven, Belgium. His main clinical areas of interest include aggressive lymphoproliferative disorders, immune mediated hematological disorders and apheresis. In 2013, he obtained his PhD in medical science entitled “Posttransplantation lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD): towards an integrated approach”. His current research interest mainly focuses on pathogenesis and new imaging platforms in rare lymphoproliferative disorders, in particular PTLD, in order to better understand underlying mechanisms and to look for new potential therapeutic targets. He currently is promoter of three PhD students involved in clinical and translational research on PTLD and other rare lymphomas. His national and international expertise in PTLD is illustrated by publications in several peer reviewed and high impact journals including Blood and the New England Journal of Medicine. In addition he also serves as a reviewer for several journals.  

Dr Frère currently works as a clinical hematologist in the hemato-oncology department of CHR East Belgium in Verviers, where she has been in function since 2009 and was named head of service of this department in 2018. Her previous functions were "resident specialist" in the medical hematology and oncology department of the University Hospital of Liège (UHL) between 2000 and 2004, and between 2004 and 2009 chief of clinic in the hematology department (stem cell transplantation) at the UHL.

She is also involved in other activities, such as the creation, in 2013, of the pilot project "IRINA", with regards to providing hemato-oncological care at home. This project was rewarded two times by the Belgian Foundation against Cancer, in 2013 and 2015. In 2017, the project was extended to the whole of the Belgian territory. After this, since 2017, she has been teaching at the "Ecole de la Présence Thérapeutique" (EDLPT) and since 2018 she has taken over responsibility for the medical sector of the EDLPT.

Dr Iyengar is a Consultant Haematologist with specialist interest in lymphoid malignancies and a member of the CAR-T team at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. He trained at Bangalore Medical College, India and completed specialist Haematology training in London on the University College Hospital rotation.  He completed his thesis on PI3K signalling in Mantle cell lymphoma at Barts Cancer Institute in 2014. During his research he was awarded the EHA-ASH Translational Research Fellowship in 2011 and the Royal College of Pathologists research medal in Haematology in 2013. He is a member of the UK NCRI CLL and low-grade lymphoma subgroups.

Prof. Dr. Koen Kas is a health care futurist, entrepreneur, professor of molecular oncology & digital health, and renowned international keynote speaker. He published his vision in 2 books: ‘Sick no more’ and ‘Your guide to Delight’. He is pioneering the novel concept of Delight thinking, combining Real World data from Genomics and Digital health tools with design & business model innovations into novel experiences redefining Health. His team curates the public database of certified digital health Apps. Koen is chairman of the European Cancer Prevention Organisation; ambassador of Health House; Jury of the Prix Galien; editor of the mHealth and EJCP journals, and sits on the advisory board of 7 emerging healthcare companies and 1 investor 

Jean-Jacques Kiladjian is Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at Université de Paris, consultant Hematologist, and head of the Clinical Investigation Center of the Saint-Louis Hospital, Paris, France.

Pr. Kiladjian’s research has centered on Myeloproliferative neoplasms and Myelodysplastic syndromes. Pr. Kiladjian was elected President of the French Intergroup of Myeloproliferative disorders (FIM) since 2008. He has provided educational lectures in several French and international meetings over the years, including at the ASH, the EHA, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meetings.

Dr. Nicolas Kint is working as a hematologisch in UZ Brussel.  He completed his medical education at the KU Leuven in 2013, and subsequently performed his training in Internal Medicine and Hematology in UZ Leuven.  During his training, he obtained his doctoral degree in 2019 at the KU Leuven. His primary clinical interests involve the diagnosis and treatment of patients with plasma cell disorders. Dr. Kint is a member of the Belgian Hematology Society (BHS) and the European Hematology Association (EHA).  

Laurent Knoops has a clinical and scientific career in hematology. In 2016, he reoriented his interests towards palliative care. He is now responsible of the palliative care unit of the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc and has a Professorship in palliative care at the UCLouvain. 

Thomas LeBlanc is a medical oncologist, palliative care physician, and patient experience researcher.  His clinical practice focuses on the care of patients with hematologic malignancies, with a particular emphasis on myeloid conditions and acute leukemias including acute myeloid leukemia (AML), acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs / MPDs, CML).   

As founding Director of the Duke Cancer Patient Experience Research Program (CPEP), his research investigates common issues faced by people with cancer, including issues of symptom burden, quality of life, psychological distress, prognostic understanding, and treatment decision-making. This work aims to improve patients' experiences living with serious illnesses like blood cancers, including the integration of specialist palliative care services to provide an extra layer of support along with their comprehensive cancer care. 

To date he has published over 180 Medline-indexed articles, and several chapters in prominent textbooks of oncology and palliative medicine, and co-led the first multisite randomized clinical trial of integrated palliative care in hematology. 

Bob Löwenberg is Professor of Hematology at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlandsand past director of the Rotterdam Cancer Center “Daniel den Hoed”. Between 2103-2020 he served as the Editor-in-Chief of Blood, one of the leading international scientific biomedical journals, with a focus on blood and blood diseases.Professor Löwenberg’s research activities at Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam focus on the abnormal biological features of leukemia, and their potential diagnostic and treatment utility. Through his role in international multicenter prospective phase I-II and phase III clinical trials in leukemia he has been actively engaged in developmental therapeutics with particular consideration of themolecular heterogeneity of the diseaseand advancing new treatment concepts. The large phase III studies are embedded in the European HOVON Cooperative Group Network. He has published extensively in leading scientific journals.Bob Löwenberg has held various leading positions. Professor Löwenberg was one of the founders and has served as President of the European Haematology Association (EHA). He has been president of the International Society of Experimental Hematology and the International Society ofHematology. He is immediate past Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board and current Vice-President of the Board of the European School of Hematology (Paris).He founded and served as the first president of the Dutch-Belgian Cooperative Group on Hemato-Oncology in Adults (HOVON Cooperative Group), one of the leading cooperative consortia, which runs clinical trials in hemato-oncology in Europe.Bob Löwenberg has received various honours for his contributions to the field of hematology. He is an elected member of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of The Netherlands. In 2011 he was honoured by the Dutch Queen: Knight of the Royal Order of the Netherlands Lion.

Johan Maertens is currently associate professor of Haematology at the University Hospitals Leuven, Campus Gasthuisberg Leuven, Belgium. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the International Immunocompromised Host Society, the International Society of Human and Animal Mycology, the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer, the American Society of Hematology, the European Haematology Association, and a member of European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT). He is a past-chair of the Infectious Diseases group of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) and a founding member and the current chair of the European Conference on Infections in Leukaemia (ECIL) group. He is a fellow of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology (ECMM).

His major professional interest is fungal and viral infections in patients with haematological disorders, development of new management approaches to invasive aspergillosis, non-invasive diagnosis of opportunistic respiratory infections, and non-myeloablative and haplo-identical allogeneic stem cell transplantation. Dr Maertens

has published over 400 articles and book chapters on antifungal management and diagnosis in several prestigious journals. He is a co-editor of the book “Diagnosis of Fungal Infections.” He served as a reviewer for many journals and is a member of numerous national and international advisory boards.

Marc MICHEL, M.D, M.Sc, is a full Professor of Internal Medicine and the Head of the Unit of Internal Medicine, which is also the French national reference center for adult’s immune cytopenias (coordinator Prof B. Godeau), at Henri Mondor University Hospital, Université Paris-Est Créteil, Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris, at Créteil, France. He is also the head of the Division of Internal Medicine – Geriatrics-Endocrinology and Emergency Unit, at Créteil.. He did his medical school, his residency and training in Paris (internal medicine, hematology and clinical immunology). He spent 2 years doing research in Immunology at INSERM U25, Faculté de Médecine Necker (Pr. Jean-François Bach) in Paris and spent a year at the Platelet research center (head Prof. JB Bussel) at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York. He has a recognized clinical expertise in auto-immune diseases and especially in ITP and autoimmune hemolytic anemias. He has participated as an investigator to several clinical trials and is an active member of both the European working group on thrombocytopenias and the international ITP working group. He has contributed to the development of new standards in ITP terminology and the consensual ITP bleeding assessment scale and he is the author or co-author of many peer-reviewed articles especially on adult’immune cytopenias. He has also an expertise in red blood cell disorders beside AIHA and especially in sickle cell anemia and in other acquired forms of hemolytic anemia such as paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH).

Ine Moors is a clinical hematologist at Ghent University Hospital, in training since 2011, and member of the staff since 2015. Her main focus is on the treatment and care for patients with acute leukemia and patients with acute complications. She participates in clinical research on the treatment of hematological patients in the ICU, in palliative care research and  in different clinical trials in acute and myeloid leukemia and supportive care. She is an active member of the BHS Acute Leukemias subcommittee of the BHS.

Sylvia Snauwaert was born in Bruges, Belgium, on the 29th of April 1983. After her high-school education at the St-Andreaslyceum in Bruges, she started her Medicine studies at Ghent University in 2001 and obtained her Master degree in Medicine in 2008.  After 1 year of training in Internal Medicine at the AZ Sint-Jan Brugge-Oostende AV Hospital in Bruges, she started as a PhD fellow of the Research Foundation-Flanders (FWO Vlaanderen) at the Department of Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology and Immunology of Ghent University. Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Tessa Kerre and Prof. Dr. Bart Vandekerckhove, she did fundamental research focusing on the in vitro development of leukemia antigen-specific T cells, T-cell mediated immunotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in general and T-lymphocyte development in human. In October 2013, she continued her training in Internal Medicine at the Ghent University Hospital. In February 2014, she obtained the degree of Doctor in Medical Sciences. In November 2015 and September 2016 respectively, she obtained her certification in Internal Medicine and in Clinical Hematology. She has a special interest in lymphopoiesis, lymphoproliferative disorders and immunotherapy in hematopoietic malignancies. She is a member of the Belgian Hematological Society (BHS) and of the Lymphoproliferative Disorder subcommittee of the BHS (January 2017). In June 2017, she started an observational fellowship focusing on lymphoma therapy under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Franck Morschhauser at the Centre Hospitalier Régional Universitaire (CHRU) de Lille (France). Member of of the Board the ‘Wetenschappelijk Fonds Hematologie v.z.w. AZ Sint-Jan AV Brugge-Oostende’. Member of the LYSA. 

I am Elke Stienissen, 39 years old. When I was 32 I got the following diagnosis: classical hodgkin lymphoma, nodular sclerosing stage 4. I turned out to be refractory and had to do a lot of treatments including an auto and allo stem cell transplant. After my autologous stem cell transplant I became a volunteer in the flemish lymphoma patient organization ‘Lymfklierkanker Vereniging Vlaanderen’. After my allogeneic stem cell transplant I became president. Since November 2020 I am also chair of the BHS Patient committee and the patient advisory board for scientific research in UZ Gent. Informing patients about their haematological disease, treatments and aftercare, communication and shared decision making are very important to me. Besides that I am still me and work for the city of Ghent where I give legal advice .  

Dr. Walter Van Dyck is Professor of Technology and Innovation Management at Vlerick Business School where he chairs the Technology and Operations Management or TOM Area and directs the Healthcare Management Centre. He is a co-founding scholar of the Personalized Medicines Strategies Fund at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at KU Leuven, Leuven, Belgium.

His main counselling and research interest is in biopharmaceutical market access decision-making, the economics of innovation and its implications for public health policy. His current research focusses on biopharmaceutical economics, health technology assessment and innovative market entry agreements with public payers for gene & cell therapies making use of Real World Evidence (RWE)-based advanced analytical techniques.

Koen Van Eygen has been trained in medical oncology and haematology before they were separate recognised specialisms.  He subsequently dedicated himself to haematology exclusively. He has a long standing interested in lean management and care organisation and was engaged in a project on oncological home hospitalisation supported by Kom Op Tegen Kanker since 2016.

Dr Esmé Waanders is a laboratory specialist clinical genetics at the University Medical Center Utrecht (Utrecht, the Netherlands) with a special interest in the predisposition to pediatric cancer. She performed her postdoctoral research in the Radboudumc (Nijmegen, the Netherlands) focusing on the somatic aberrations in pediatric leukemia and in St Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis, TN, USA) studying familial leukemia. Her current research at the Princess Máxima Center (Utrecht, the Netherlands) focuses on clonal evolution and relapse development in leukemia and on predisposition in children with cancer. Dr Waanders is member of the iBFM genetic variation committee, the SIOPE host genome working group and she is chair of the COST Action LEukaemia GENe Discovery by data sharing, mining and collaboration (LEGEND).
