Dr Bryony Mathew, British Ambassador to Iceland

Bryony Mathew was appointed as British Ambassador to Iceland in August 2021. She joined the Diplomatic Service in 2005, and has served in London, Bangalore, Beijing and Phnom Penh.

Prior to joining the Service, Bryony studied Experimental Psychology at University College, Oxford, she gained a Master’s Degree in Biological Anthropology from the University of Durham and a PhD in Neuroscience from University College, London.

Christina Liaos, European Investment Lead & Regional Director Europe North at the Departmnet for Business and Trade (DBT)

Christina Schiøtt Liaos is responsible for the leadership, strategic alignment and coordination of investment activities in DBT Europe. She leads a large team of investment professionals operating on the ground in over 25 European markets and covering both Foreign Direct Investment and capital investment into the UK

Christina has been with the Department for Business and Trade for over 10 years, holding positions as Director for Denmark and Director for the Nordic Region.

Prior to this, she has many years of business development experience within international trade and investment organisations, including Schneider, PowerPlant, Invest in Denmark and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Whereas a Danish national, Christina has an international background and holds a Master of Business Administration from the UK and a Master of Public Policy from Denmark.

Maria Gudjonsdottir, Iceland Country Director at the Department for Business and Trade (DBT)

Maria is the country director for Iceland with the Department of Business and Trade. Before joining the UK Embassy in Iceland, Maria worked as an International Sales & Marketing Manager in the UK within the FMCG industry. During that time she was responsible for the brand performance in export markets such as Scandinavia, Caribbean, Far East and business development in South America.

During the Brexit transition period Maria managed European export markets for Little Moons where the main focus was to continue to drive sales growth while adopting new ways of working with all stakeholders. Successfully, delivering 400% increase in sales during that period.

Maria has MSc in international business & marketing from Reykjavik University and a BSc in Human Nutrition from the University of Iceland.
