The NICE/DSU/ABPI Masterclasses are unique in being focused solely on the specific requirements of NICE and its Appraisal Committees and on the challenges associated with key areas of evidence generation and methodology. They are specifically designed for staff in pharmaceutical companies who prepare submissions, the consultancies that support them, and members of the academic groups who review the submissions.

Making high quality, evidence-based submissions to NICE’s Technology Appraisal processes can mean the difference between successful or very limited access to the NHS market for medicines.

“Mapping” refers to a set of methods used to link clinical evidence to preference based outcomes required to estimate Quality Adjusted Life Years in an economic evaluation. It is a very widely used method in NICE appraisals but it can be challenging to produce reliable estimates.
This masterclass will provide instruction on when and how these analyses should be performed, including consideration of evidence generation activities to be considered to complement direct measurement of health utilities in clinical studies. The sessions are based on the recently updated Decision Support Unit (NICE DSU) Technical Support Document and presented by its authors (Professors Mónica Hernández and Allan Wailoo, University of Sheffield). Presentations and participant activities, real world examples and software demonstrations will be used.
