Abstract and Poster Submission Guidelines

This year MS at the Limits will include a poster exhibition to give delegates an opportunity to showcase examples of excellence in research in MS care. If you have been involved in projects or service improvements that you feel would be of interest to fellow HCP’s please consider submitting a poster for display.

Posters will be available throughout the conference and there is time in the programme for poster authors to respond to delegate questions.

The MS at the Limits conference focuses on innovations that will make a difference to people living with MS and the posters should reflect your contribution to developing and shaping the clinic of the future.

1. Submission dates

These are the key dates for submitting your abstract and poster.

Please note these dates are fixed, and we’re unable to accept late entries.

2. Application and submitting your form

The first step is to complete the short application form (download HERE) enabling you to summarise your poster.

The written abstract section, which should not exceed 250 words or contain any graphs or pictures, should contain a summary of the entire poster. It should offer the chairs a taste of what your poster will be about and convey the core intention, design and methodology of the research, audit or service improvement project that has been undertaken.

A suggested structure would be:

Context

  • Background, significance and/or rationale

Hypothesis, objective or statement

  • Aim of the research

  • Questions you were seeking to address

Design & Methods

  • Experimental methods or methodology

  • Population/group(s) studied

  • Measurement techniques

Results

  • Please show the primary findings or results of your research

Conclusion

  • What has been the impact of results

  • …and how did it compare to your original hypothesis, objective or statement?

The abstract submission should include dedicated fields kept separate from the word count for:

  • funding source

  • medical writing support

  • and trial registration number

We’ll let you know by Friday 30 October 2026 whether your application has been successful.

Please note that you’ll need to register to attend the conference if your poster is accepted and you’d like to display it on site at the Royal College. Travel and accommodation allowances are available – you’ll find the details when you register HERE

3. Preparing your poster

The maximum poster size is A0 portrait (84 x 119cm); posters that exceed this size cannot be displayed. Your poster needs to be eye catching and look professional, although it does not need to be professionally produced.

Helpful hints:

Title

  • The title should be short and succinctly convey the content of your poster

Content

  • We encourage you to reflect the ‘at the limits’ theme of the conference

  • The poster should contain sufficient detail to enable the audience to understand the context but please focus on the main information you wish to cover

  • Further details can be provided as handouts or as in-person answers to specific questions

Structure

  • It is important to ensure your poster is structured and easy-to-follow for the audience

  • The following format may be useful to organise the content:

Context State the challenge and its relevance to people with MS. It’s useful to put this in context with a few references.
Hypothesis, objective or statement State the goal(s) of the research and the question(s) you are seeking to address.
Design & method Outline the study design, procedures and population. Indicate which measurement techniques were used and provide information on the analysis conducted.
Results Present your findings.
Discussion Consider your findings in relation to the original hypothesis, objective or statement. Reflect on the original aims and intentions of the research. Identify areas for improvement or follow up and any wider potential implications.
Conclusion Concisely state what the results mean and their impact on the field of research.

 

Format:

  • Please use clear, concise English

  • Ensure that the text is large enough to read from 1m away

  • Where possible, convert data to labelled graphs

  • It never hurts to ask a colleague to proofread through the poster and check the spelling and grammar!

Authorship & Disclosure

  • The named HCP author must review and approve the final content before submission

  • The author remains the author of record, regardless of who prepares or submits on their behalf

  • Sponsorship of the content must be prominently disclosed

Submitting on behalf of an author

Sponsors and agencies may submit on behalf of an HCP author. This is accepted practice and fully permitted, in line with GPCAP (Good Practice for Conference Abstracts and Presentations)...

…but, two conditions apply:

  1. The named author reviews and approves the final content
  2. The named author remains author of record
