CERIS Workshop on Innovative Approaches to Combating the Trafficking of Goods

CERIS Workshop 2026

            ABOUT

This thematic Workshop of the Community for European Research and Innovation for Security (CERIS) aims at presenting and discussing European research and innovative solutions, and capability needs, relevant for fighting illicit trafficking of goods across the external borders of the European Union. The solutions presented will address capability needs for identification and detection as well as market intelligence and data analytics, for any type of material trafficked.

In breakout sessions, experts will discuss with innovators and policy makers how innovative solutions could be relevant in two specific scenarios: wildlife trafficking, and trafficking of intangible assets.

The target audience includes practitioners, particularly customs and law enforcement authorities, but also innovators and policy makers working on, e.g. enhancing detection of threats in the flow of goods and services, and risk assessments. The Workshop will:

  • Bring together EU-funded projects showcasing European innovative technologies in this field, from big data analysis to advanced and safe detection technologies that minimise the disruption to trade flows;
  • Present experiences and opportunities of collaborative research and innovation in Europe; and
  • Discuss the transferability of research results of previous projects to develop innovative solutions to address capability needs in the fight against trafficking of wildlife and of intangible assets.
