Communication Matters Conference 2021

13 - 17 September, Virtual

Conference Programme

Delegates will be able to choose from a large number of presentations in the conference programme. It will be a great opportunity to hear about, and be part of, the latest developments in the field of AAC.

Sessions

All sessions are categorised into three 'levels' as a guide to the type and nature of the presentation:

  • Introductory sessions assume no previous knowledge of AAC

  • General sessions assume participants have a knowledge of AAC, probably gained over several years, and the sessions may have more discussion time than an Introductory session

  • Specialist sessions assume even greater knowledge and, in some cases, will be more participatory in nature

We have based our topic areas on the three aspects of evidence-based practice, which constitute improved outcomes for all. These aspects are:

  • Best Research Evidence (from independent organisations such as education, social or health services and universities)

  • Clinical & Professional Experience (presented by health or education professionals or those working for other organisations for AAC users)

  • Personal Stories & Preferences (would include personal experience stories, single case studies and examples of AAC in the wider community).

In addition to platform presentations there will be poster sessions and also some more participatory events.

Conference Theme

We are pleased to announce this year’s conference theme will be CM2021 - Making Connections! We know we can’t meet up in person, but we don’t want that to stop us from networking and socialising together virtually and there will be plenty of opportunities to connect this year at #CM2021conf.

Annual Meeting of Associate Members

Associate Members of Communication Matters can attend the 2021 Annual Meeting of Associate Members on Monday 13th September at 3.30pm. Non-members are welcome to attend as observers but they cannot vote on resolutions or speak to the meeting.

Programme

The 2021 virtual conference will take place from Monday 13th - Friday 17th September 2021 and run from 9am-1pm on the Tuesday and Thursday, and from 1pm-5pm on the Monday, Wednesday and Friday (UK time).

A timetable for the CM2021 Conference is now available here

Please note that only Presenting Authors are listed in the programme, all Co-Authors will be included in the 'Book of Abstracts' which will be available for delegates to download from the conference platform.

All the Pre-Recorded Presentations will be available to watch until 17th December. The 'Pre-Recorded Presentations with Live Chat' sessions will also be recorded live and made available to watch until December, providing the speaker has given their permission. Please note that if we do not have permission to record the session live, this is noted beneath the session description (abstract) and can therefore only be watched at the time shown on the programme.
