Head of Business Development - NOCRI - NIHR Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure
James leads a team that liaises with the global life science industry to guide and introduce them to the NIHR and wider UK health system. In particular, to inform them about access to expertise, facilities and funding, and the NIHR's investment in early phase, translational, experimental medicine infrastructure. His team also works closely with the Department of Health and Social Care, Office for Life Sciences and the Department of International Trade to increase the visibility and promote the attractiveness of the UK across the globe as a leading location to develop health and care innovations. Prior to joining the NIHR in 2019, James worked in several roles. These involved licensing technologies from UK and international tech transfer organisations into the life sciences sector, and building and maintaining partnerships with global pharmaceutical and MedTech companies on behalf of a digital health startup. Now working for the NIHR, he utilises his industry experience to support companies in their product development with the aim of bringing new technologies and therapies into the NHS. During his earlier career, James was a postdoctoral researcher at Imperial College London, Department of Surgery and Cancer, and UCL, Centre for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Neuroscience. Before this he completed his PhD in infectious disease at the University of Cambridge.
