Communication Matters Conference 2022

11 - 13 September, University of Leeds

Why should you attend?

The conference is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the latest developments in the field of AAC. Gain new ideas and approaches, meet the experts and other like-minded individuals, form new relationships and strengthen existing ones and attend a variety of presentations and workshops. Invest in yourself and have fun!

But don't just take our word for it! See some comments below from our 2018 delegates about what they particularly liked

Not all comments came from the evaluation forms, here is a taster of some comments on social media:

Finally, please see some lovely feedback from our first virtual event, The CM Sessions which were held in October 2020:

  • “I showed my son all of these [sessions lead by AAC users]. He’s now seeing for the first time that he’s not alone. It has changed our game entirely. He no longer does 'I can’t' but has switched to 'I’ll try'. 3 big wins from that change in a month for him, so I don’t think we’ll look back.”
  • “This was my first real experience of seeing and hearing from a whole range of AAC users, especially those using higher-tech AAC devices. I've been a SLT for 16 years, and this has really opened my eyes to a whole new world. I hope that it will enhance and shape both my professional practice, and my personal interactions with AAC users.”
  • “AAC users are not understood. See that day in and day out and my heart breaks for my son. This [the CM Sessions] opened a new, accepting, competent world to him. I think it may be a game changer in the long run.”
  • “I got SO many ideas and showed my son SO many clips proving that people who use AAC really can! We've seen the difference in a matter of weeks!”
  • "It was great having the videos to watch at a time that was convenient to me. I also liked having the ability to pause the video if I had missed a bit, and to help me take notes."
  • "I was able to join online and I felt part of a brilliant community (I had always wanted to attend a CM conference but never got the opportunity) so thank you, I loved and learned!"
